Trim tab kit for Sea Ray 220

Tom,

So my guy says buy this and he will install them but he said I need to get the 10-3/4" actuators. This is a good price:

But how do I get the smaller actuators. Swap them out with you? I'll ask Hodges Marine if they have the smaller actuators in stock.

He feels your workaround will work. Those pictures you posted here were very helpful.

You will be the happiest person one you install the Bennett Trim tabs on your boat.

Since they have sensors for the EIC in them I am sure Hodges will not have them. The best way to do it is buy the kit then send us the actuators. And will swap them out and send the shorter ones to you.

Go here, http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Bennett_Return_Form.pdf and print out the return form. It has the address to send them to. Write on it that you want the 1" shorter 11-3/4" actuators for the M120EIC kit, and that you spoke with Tom McGow and we will do the rest.

P.S. I am going to be out on a mini vacation until Monday (4-18) so I will not be able answer questions until then.

Soooo......

The boat is in the water and the trim tabs are on. I did not have an opportunity to check them out on land. They really seemed to keep the bow down when fully trimmed coming on plane. But using one vs. the other was confusing me. When we stopped for a swim I checked them out under the boat

Port and starboard were switched. Grrrr...

Also I had the smaller actuators sent to me because of my integrated swim platform. When the tabs are fully up it seems they are somewhat higher than parallel to the boat. So they hit parallel when they are 4 red LEDs down so I don't think I'm getting as full a tab effect when they are fully deployed.

I might need to inspect them better with a straight edge and a snorkel. And maybe a waterproof camera.

Jayelwin,

The LH switch/rocker controls starboard tab and LH switch controls the port tab. For example, if you have more people sitting on the starboard side of the boat, the port side will be riding high. Have a look at the top of the LH switch, it should have a pictogram of a down arrow and bow. Simply hit the top of the switch and the starboard tab will deploy, "lowering" the port side/bow. Same process with the RH switch and port tab. If the tabs are working as described, the system is wired correctly.

I can't answer the extension question. However, I do not think they are wired backwards. It's standard setup that the stb switch works the port tab and vice versa. The work just like the switches are labeled - the stb bow down switch actually moves the port tab in order to trim stb bow down and port moves stb.

Ah, ok. I just have to think about the boat and not the tab I want to move.

Fully deployed down how many degrees should the tab be below parallel to the bottom?

Jayelwin,

Tabman should be able to answer your question regarding tab angle since he knows your exact model - you may want to post a picture. Quite frankly, it just takes a few of bumps on the switch to change the running angle of the boat.

I guess I expected more deflection of the tabs into the water.

No doubt when they are down fully the bow doesn't rise up at all when getting on plane.

My mechanic sent me photos he took on land. Maybe they are pretty parallel up and sticking my arm under the boat while swimming isn't a good judge.

Nice installation! It looks very good.

When fully retracted the Tabs should angle up slightly from the hull bottom. This is so the boat can still run bow up in a following sea when needed.

The Tabs only deflect about 15 degrees, about 2-1/2" of stroke more than that and the start making too much drag.

Yes the controls work opposite of what you might think. Yes just push the switch in the direction you want the boat to respond
