Trim problem

Under load on my 95 4.3 ltr I lose power whenever I press down the trim button when I let off the trim button power returns. The problem is causing boat to bog down/lose power my battery is new and well working alternator tested good . 2 local boat marina cant figure it out. When best is at idle you can press trim with NO loss of power so only acts this way under load and after running under load.please if anyone knows or heard of similar issue let me kno thsnk you

It sounds like your trim motor is shot, or the power wiring to the trim motor is. If it can move the outdrive without any pressure on it at the dock (in neutral), but when in gear it can't, then it sounds like you need a better mech. to look at it. Try trimming the drive up in reverse at idle and see if it will work, if it does and not in fwd then it's one of the two mentioned. Good luck!

I believe what the OP is saying is that the engine looses power when trimming... in other words, the load of the trim motor sucks power out of the engine.

I would look at all battery connections and engine grounds. If that's all good, maybe an ignition coil?

Yes that is exactly what he is saying. So if the trim motor is shorting out or stalling under a load, it will cause the battery voltage to drop significantly and then the coil voltage etc., will not be enough to keep the engine running properly and would "bog" or even turn off.

I had this exact thing happen once, everytime I hit the trim switch the engine would miss, turned out to be loose battery terminal connections.
