As i was out on the water on sunday i suddenly lost the ability to trim my 2005 280 sundancer. When i pressed any of the trim tabs nothing happened at all and i had a difficult time getting the boat to hold straight on plane. What do u think this might be? Could it just be a fuse somewhere. I am a new boater and this was only my second time out on the boat without help from the captain. The day before all was great and the boat was performing very well. Please help. Thanks in advance.

dcwjd,
It is think it is entirely possible that you just have a blow fuse somewhere. If you look in your owners manual at the electrical wiring diagrams for the engine/outdrive, you may be able to find it. You may need to look at other pages, I have not specifically looked at the diagrams for your specific boat.

For older boats like mine, it is easy to blow the fuse. All you have to do is push UP on the side and DOWN on the other side at the same time. Doing this connects battery +12V to ground, and pops the fuse or breaker. Your boat may be the same.

You should of course take a look in the engine compartment, make sure that you don't have trim oil sprayed around in there, and that the trim oil reservoir is still full. But I doubt that it is that serious.

Even if it is just a fuse, you should find out what made it blow. Could be just a bad fuse...could be a chaffed wire. Also, check all the plugs at the trim pump to make sure everything is plugged in correctly. Oil level and hoses should also be checked, as Dave has already mentioned. If you don't find anything at the pump and fuse is OK, check the wiring at the trim switches for proper connection.

Someone will chime in here with better info, but my buddy had a similar problem w/ his 2003 280. Techs said it is common and required the boat to be hauled for a replacement part. I'll ask him what it was when I get a chance. He lived w/ it for a few weeks last fall prior to winter haul out.

It is most likely fuse - in fuse holder right on pump. It is very easy to blow that fuse when you keep running in one direction with tabs on min or max position (it builds up to much pressure)
