My trim down only makes a click sound. Occasionally if I hit the button enough times, it will trim down eventually. Is this a bad solenoid?

If it's clicking, then probably not solenoid, but pump motor. Try banging on motor with hammer while some one holds the trim button. I just replaced my motor. Did the same thing.

could be either or both. go to the trim pump with a jumper wire and jump the small green/white to 12v .this operates the
solenoid.If pump does not run, jump the large lugs with the green motor wire.,If motor runs, solenoid contacts are bad

Ummmm...Really?
my batteries were so far discharged they wouldn't start the boat at the beginning of the day & I only charged them (2 batteries) about 2 hours before heading out.

Boat batteries are only good a few years. We replace all 6 every 3 years. Found them to be the cause of a lot of electrical issues.
