I like our Magma grill, however, the idea of leaving it on the boat regularly (despite a good cleaning) seems like an invitation to bugs and smells that I would rather avoid. Thus, it will probably reguarly be carried to and from. Since these are supposed to be portable, I looked at the covers, and didn't see a carry handle or anything that made me think the covers were for anything other than dockage (although I may be wrong). I also looked online for a tote and haven't found one. I also searched the forums without success.

Does anyone else regularly transport their grill and if so, what do you use?

Thanks!

we have a canvas duffle bag w/handles w/ our boat name on it and it works great. The compartment I keep it in has a pull up air freshener and that helps also_One thing if you burn your grill hot after cooking it gets rid of those smells!

We store ours in the Magma canvas tote on the boat. Let it burn off any excess grease/food before you store it & it'll be fine.

Good idea on the canvas. I will look into that at an Army Navy surplus store.

I got the Chefmate rectangular model. For the time being I am using a dual rail mount and putting it on the rail at the sink. When I take the boat out of the water for the winter, I'm seriously thinking about mounting it with two flush mounts in the front anchor hatch. I like that better than cutting into the edges, and I want to work on that hatch anyway and see if I can make it a side opener. We don't have a mounted rod holder anywhere (except a couple of clamp on's on the bimini).

I voted for the floor mount under the ski platform hatch, but the "Only Mate" out voted me, determining that it would interfere with people getting in and out while I grill. We rarely use front access, its away from the vinyl and its next to a squirt gun in an emergency. If I do destroy the hatch, its cheaper than a seat cover to replace...I'm thinking

I have the canvas cover and made a rack to store a couple bottles of fuel and the grill under my port lounge seat of the 240. ( I use the pole mount and the line holders in the compartment work great for securing the pole) I haven't had any issues with smells or bugs. I do burn off and wire brush after each use. (and no I don't leave the fuel in there for extended periods)

On our 230OV we had a canvas bag with handle that worked well. It stowed on the gunwhale side of the port sleeper seat. Not sure on your boat if you could mount it on the outside of your tower on one of those board rack swivels?

I keep mine on the boat, down in the engine room. Put a mount down there. Yes I keep the propane elsewhere.

Did yours come with the tote? I can't seem to find one for the rectangular Magma's

I usually put the grill up when I get onto the boat and then take it down when I leave for the weekend. I just throw the grill in a black trashbag after it's cooled down and stick it down in the salon during the week. I've had several things missing this year during the week from my dock box or on the boat, and therefore I don't trust it out on the rail when I'm not around.

We have the Rectangular one (Newport). We store it in the original box which I cut open and taped up real good. We lay it over a towel in the box, then wrap the towel around it, and store it in the cabin under the aft lounge/mid cabin berth. 2 years, no issues.

Ours is the round Magma & if I remember correctly I bought both the grill & the tote separately at boaters World. I looked at the link Todd posted & it seems to be the exact same thing only mine says Magma instead if West Marine.

I also bought a mount that fits on the Bimini frame by the sink. I don't have it out there while underway though. It's stored in the storage area in front of the helm.
After looking at this pic it appears that I need a course in tow rope management :smt043

I've got the round one with the canvas tote. Like avguy said let it burn off after using it then I store it in the front ski compartment.

The West and Magma covers don't double as totes on the rectangular Magma's...they are just covers.

Good ideas all...I think I give up on the Magma tote, but will get one of the small Sea Ray duffles to carry it back and forth. Normal stowage in the starboard cabin sounds like a winner and great ideas about building stowage and using the box...I wonder how much trouble I can get into this winter on this project?
