Hi All,

I'm trying to arrange shipment of a 2006 300DA about 400 miles. It has to be hauled out of the water onto a boat trailer and splashed at a ramp at the destination. It likely will be travelling with at least partially full fuel tanks, all the canvas, cushions etc but empty holding tank and water.

One of the transport companies I am talking to has a tri-axle trailer rated at 14,000 lbs and up to a 36' boat and is confident that it will be adequate.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on whether this would be suitable or if I should be looking for alt. arrangement.

1) Is this going to be an in-state move, or an interstate move?
2) Is the trucker a common carrier, or just someone with a boat trailer, for example a boat yard, or boat dealer, looking to make some cash on the side?

No matter what, you should check your insurance coverage if moving your boat over the road is uncommon. Where trailering is not your usual way of moving the boat, your insurance may dictate what needs to happen. Usually you would be ok if the distance being moved is quite short, as in out of the water and off to a boat storage facility. 400 miles on the other hand is a different story and your insurance company may impose some requirements on the the carrier, such as being a common carrier in the boat moving business.

You have to keep in mind that you as the boat owner could be held liable for damage done by the boat in an accident if the trucker is not a common carrier, but someone acting on your behalf as a contractor.

Some of my local friends routinely tow their Sea Ray 300 on a triple axle trailer. I would prefer to see the trailer rated for 17K pounds, as the boat weighs very close to this amount.

I think I'm ok - checked with the Sea Ray dealer, and their service department said it would be fine. Dry weight of the 300DA is 12,500 lbs. Transported is licensed, so I have MC# and DOT# as well as proof of insurance.

My insurance company has issued me a special rider (no charge) for the move - I actually did the same move last spring with the 260DA and it worked fine, however this is almost twice the mass so thought I'd check.

Thanks all for the feedback!

Now can anyone tell me where the 300DA thread is or do I get to start one?

There is a 300DA thread.....check in the sport cruisers....good luck with the new one.

How are you thinking about covering the cockpit for the trip? The cockpit cover on a 300DA has those bungie cords that might let go and start whiping the back of the cover.
