transmission slipping 1987 4.3 v6

I have twin 4.3 mercruisers, yesterday i was at apporximately 3000 rpm and the starboard engine tranny seamed to slip, when I brought the rpms down a little I felt it engage again. Could this be checked while in the water? I cannot trailer it. Could it be something simple? can I still use it at a lower rpm for the season without causing serious damage? Thankyou in advance

you dont have transmissions if you have I/O , check the prop for a spun hub.

no big deal at all either send the prop off for a new hub if you have a older prop or get a new hub kit for $50.00 if you have a newer style prop. or throw a spare on it and go boating.
