It is never too early to plan our boating trips, especially when they are big ones. So again I am enlisting the help of my fellow CSR members on the pros and cons of marinas for about a 5 day stay in Wildwood N.J. Several seasons ago we made the trip from Baltimore to New York and the members here came through with great suggestions and marina recommendations, especially for our home away from home for several days in New York when Liberty Landing Marina was suggested.

Well this trip is not as long, but we are planning on about 4 to 5 night stay in Wildwood. Several of our boating crew has small children, so that needs to be taken in consideration. All I need is good restaurants and bars to make me happy for the week!

take a look at activecaptain.com

I use these reccomendations when traveling ICW

I stayed at Schooner Island a few weeks ago. Three of four restaurants within walking distance and they have a pool for the kiddies. Bring a BIG flyswatter for the NJ greenheads (horse flies in VA) in the swamp getting there.

Bill,

Two best marinas around I know are Schooner Island Marina and Canyon Club. SIM is more family oriented, it has a pool. I'd suggest to rent a car to get around. Enterprise comes and pick you up at the marina. I'll try to find a link to the trip I've posted few years back.

Here's the link (post #48): http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/15090-Wildwood-Trip/page5

As Alex posted, schooners island and canyon club are the only two you want to consider. They are very different from each other however. SIM is family, fun, lots of kids, boardwalk, wawa, noisy, etc. CC is totally chilled-out, expensive fishing boats, beautiful pool, resort feel but with really nothing nearby.

Thanks guys, looks like I have a decision to make. Look out for myself and take the relaxing country club atmosphere or sacrifice for the kids that are coming. Ah what am I talking about, I might as well forget about the country club for me. Thanks again for the tips.

Yea, forget about the club atmosphere with tons of stuff to do, stick with a boring marina with nothing to do...........you may know of one.

Schooner Island is really the only choice in Wildwood and good place if you have kids... you can walk to beach and boardwalk but it is a pretty long walk... decent restaurants, bars nearby, mini golf nearby... well run, clean marina. We used to make this trip every Labor Day weekend with two other boats, rented a big Suburban from Enterprise to get around the beach towns. Btw, we stopped making this trip after we figured out that it is actually cheaper to charter a private jet to get there vs. taking three boats from Chesapeake to Wildwood and back (lol)... not to mention Wildwood is a "love it or hate it" kind of a place
