Transient Marina planned for Navy Pier

I talked with the guys running this at the boat show tonight.

Got lots of info, but, there is still a lot that they haven't worked out yet.

I asked about a dinghy dock, and they quickly shot that down. They're talking about a flat rate for boats that dock during the day, so, why would you bring your dinghy when it'll probably cost the same as the big boat.

I mentioned all the dinghy docks in MI, and they said that those are in state run harbors, this is totally private. So, touch and goes to drop or pick up passengers probably won't be allowed either.

The first 2 docks are going to be wave breaking docks. They wanted to extend a break wall of the water filtration plant, but that was shot down.

They said they've been working on this plan since 2015. Renting the space from McPier, and collecting a mooring tax from the boaters.

He also didn't have exact figures for dockage, but said it'd be similar to the river; $50 ish per hour.

Great info! Kind of a bummer on the dinghy situation. I suppose if they are looking at $50 an hour to stop I'd probably be more likely to fork over $250 and stay for the night, hookup and run the AC...

That’s disappointing.... Chicago really sucks when it comes to transient boaters and that’s a shame.... The city should really do something about that
The only that city is interested in is giving to its people up the rear. If there is any size to that marina $50/hr ain't going to work. You'll get a few knuckleheads, but I can't imagine the average boater paying that for navy pier.
