Wow - just got official word that the transfer is approved. We got so much bad information it was amazing. We finally found someone that was helpful at the state. It only took about a year.

This saga actually started with an independent agency that handles registration that tried to tell me I needed to pay sales tax on my boat at nearly $10k - after I explained and documented that I had paid personal property tax, and in lieu documentation tax that was a similar number. Then they came back and said it appeared that I was trying to avoid personal property tax. I said no - the boat is moored in Illinois. So then I had to undocument the boat. What a frustrating experience. Probably would be straight forward if I was a resident of Illinois.

Welcome to IL!:smt021 Now you can see why I want to get hell out of here and you thought Missouri was the "Show Me State.":smt043

We moved the boat to Grafton, IL - because the river has flooded so bad the last 4 seasons - Grafton Marina offered more than the MO side marinas. Plus many of our boating friends sold and got out of boating or never used them - so we decided to try a different marina. My office is 1 mile from my house - so don't mind the 1 hour commute to the boat versus 30 minute commute to the boat. But according to Illinois law - I had to register the boat in Illinois if it spends more than 60 days in Illinois. So that is what I did - it just took a year to get it figured out. It is very hard to do if you are not an Illinois resident. But - it is required.
