Gentlemen,

As usual I continue to revert to this forum for help.

Boats out of the water, bottom paint, cut and buff the hull, new hull stripes and the transducer is not working.

The PO replaced the raymarines with Garmin 7212's and kept the original transducer. Now it no longer works and it's dated 11/04. It's an Airmar part # 44-058-1-01 and no longer available. anyone have a similar issue? Trying to just plug and play instead of replacing the entire thru hull, but i'll do what i have to do to fix it.

Thanks,

Steve

Looks likes it’s a B22 transducer. That type is not replaceable in-water. Some transducers have a housing the the transducer element slides into and can be removed and replaced in-water.

It looks like the type you have is different. It has an outer flange that seats on the outside of the hull and is secured with an inner nut. This can only be replaced by removing the whole unit from the outside. I hope it was not installed with 5200.

Boats out of the water.

Is there a specific model of replacement?
Its funny you say that as I called Airmar on that exact part this week as I found one not being used in my boat. They sent me the wiring diagram (attached) so i can wire it into my NEMA network. Also I asked what I could replace it with keeping the same housing and being able to do it "in water" pop in housing. He told me the DT800 or DTS800 both newer technology.

so you have the same airmar transducer, Part number 44-058-1-01 that is not being used?
airmar told you the DT800 or DTS800 are both exact fits? do the DT800 or DTS800 register depth, speed and temp?

I believe the DTS has the speed sensor also.
D. depth
T. temperature
S. speed

I personally would not go with a paddle-wheel speed sensor. They always get clogged up. Unless you're fishing and need to know your speed through water to set your relative troll speed, it's not worth it, IMO. Your GPS speed should be fine.

Airmar does have an ultrasonic speed sensor that doesn't rely on a paddle wheel.

As for a replacement, you should look at the B22 specs for the size of the through hull. Then go to the Garmin site and look for transducers that will match that hole. I had a B60 tilted element on my last 2 boats and its a good unit. Suports depth and temp. Non CHIRP, a basic sounder. There are a bunch of different types (traditional, CHIRP, different frequencies), so you'll need to consider your objectives in a transducer.

The existing transducer does not have a paddle wheel. The smart craft system and the garmins are not reading speed depth or temp....

The current sensor is just DT depth and temp. DTS has a old school speed wheel in it. I personally don't care about speed as I trust GPS for that. If yours is bad and you don't want to change the housing and you want it to work with the smartcraft then a DT800 will work.

Call Casey @AIRMAR he was very helpfull

I called. Very helpful.

my problem is I’m not a tech savvy guy with this. I don’t know if I have nmea 183 or 2000. Also they mentioned maybe the smartcraft sensor isn’t working. Don’t want to hire an electrical guy because quite frankly from what I’ve found. Most of these guys are less than reliable and good

Mac what are you trying to do? Feed this into the Garmins or something else? Do you have another transducer on the boat for the fish finder? If you only have this as your transducer and it is not working the a DT800 should work with your Garmin. It will pop right in the same housing and has a NEMA 2000 plug for your Garmin. See attached. Call Casey back and verify but should plug right into a NEAM 2000 Garmin Network.

for some reason i didn't see this post above.....
i had the guy who did the work for previous owner swap out the transducer.
unfortunately i launched the boat today and the depth is working on the garmin but not the smartcraft........

I have a 250 DA and depth gauge stopped working. The boat was pulled for another issue, so took a picture of the transducer in the hull. The question is will transducer still work with the “muck” on the outside of transducer as shown in pic. Or is it time for new transducer?

thanks!!
