I need to replace my depth/temp transducer. I called the local mercury parts dealer and was quoted a little over $300.00. I have looked for a online supplier but don't see one. Does anyone know where I can find a better price? Part # Smartcraft 1690371 part number supplied by Mercury. Thanks

I found an ebay listing that has already ended by GreatLakesSkipper.com who had it for $275. Here is their description and what looks like a more current part number.

Mercury Smartcraft 79-8M6001948 Airmar Black Boat Depth / Temp Sensor Transducer

I second frank. Airmar has a monopoly on transducers.

Yup, contact Airmar.

FYI, that part number is a Sea Ray part number - it's used pretty much strictly within the Sea Ray network. That's the reason you're having trouble finding it by googling. If you look in your parts manual, it might give you a little more detail about the transducer.

I do think the transducer is probably made by Airmar. The next problem is how to get the old one out. It's an in-hull held in place by about a 4" plastic ring/collar. I tried to unscrew by hand, no luck, it's in a tough place to get a good grip on. Does anyone know of something that would do the job. I think something like an oversize faucet might work but I don;t know if such a tool is made.

The "in-hull" transducers do not have a temperature feature; only the through hull and transom ones do.
If yours has a retainer ring about 4 inches in diameter then it is an "in-hull" and probably an Airmar P79 variant (see the below link).
To unlock and remove the transducer puck rotate the retainer ring about 10 degrees counterclockwise and pull the transducer straight up out of the housing.
You should be able to turn the ring easily by hand; don't use any wrenches or tools....
The housing should be filled with ethylene glycol (antifreeze).
Also attached is Airmar's cross reference guide.
