I just picked up a 7612xsv for my 400 Sedan Bridge. It still has original electronics from 1998 and the transducers installed appear to be ST 600s. Is there a new transducer that will fit in the ST housing that will allow for more than depth and temperature? I am not an avid fisherman but would like to take advantage of the fish finder and sonar to see the bottom.

The ST600 was a retractable instrument which was installed into the P120 (Plastic) or B120 (Bronze) housing. These housings are unique to the ST600 transducer including o-ring seal locations. There is not another transducer that will fit that housing. The P120 housings required a 2" hole for installation. To take advantage of the xsv features it would be best to have a CHIRP compatible transducer such as Airmar's B75 series which are the middle of the road 600 watt instruments. The B75 is a dual frequency (there are three frequency ranges available for the B75). This is a non-retractable bronze which requires a 2-13/16" hole. As you are going to get away from moving components there is really no need to have a retractable feature. Regardless, to step up to a depth/fishfinder transducer you are looking at completely removing the existing assembly and enlarging the hole.

Just got off the phone with BOE. They recommended the
B 744 based on my boat and limited planned fishing.

Thanks to everyone that responded.

You are kidding right? That is an entry level depth, temperature, and speed transducer, requires a fairing block under the boat, is not CHIRP, and definitely expensive to install for the limited capability it will give. Plus you don't need the speed feature as your Garmin GPS provides that. FYI the speed wheel is nothing but a maintenance problem with today's GPS capabilities and that is why it's retractable. And, it will not fit the existing housing you have. If you have the xsv Garmin why not make use of it's fishfinder capabilities? Very surprised at the "recommendation". This is an area that you need to get the best as you only want to replace once.... If you desire a faired transducer get the B765 but I would stay with the B75 flush through hull. Your fishing experience with the recommended transducer will be underwhelming; just saying.....

A B265LH might be another option. You should definitely consider a ducer you can grow into as opposed to out of.
