On my '94 DA 300, I have the factory installed Transducer, which is a Brass, Through Hull 50 / 200 Transducer, which has an external fairing, and currently is attached to a DSM250 Sounder and then to a old RL70C Display. All works fine, but I'd like to replace that old RL70C with something a bit more current. I do not know the Transducer model number, but it also has speed and temp sensors that work fine.

My question is whether Transducers are pretty much universal or not? In other words, can I attach this same transducer directly to a more modern Sounder / Display that utilizes the same frequency transducer, and expect it to work, or do I have to plan to haul the boat and replace the entire transducer as well?

Thanks.

Start on Airmar's website, they make virtually all the transducers for the major electronics companies. They have a cross reference guide that will tell what transducers work for the different MFD displays. I will tell you that your transducer will not work with anything but Raymarine MFD's but which ones would be hard to tell without the model # of the transducer. Follow the cable from the transducer along and you find a tag with the info you need for the cross reference guide. Good luck.

Just spent a bit of time on the phone with the Airmar guys and they were a great help.

You most likely have one of the flavors of b744v tri-ducer.
The difference between the flavors is what manufactures equipment the connector is made for. The transducers themselves are identical.
Check near the transducer itself, there should be a tag with the model number on it.

The route that I'm currently taking is to get a Raymarine i40-Bi data (brilliant naming convention as it can display depth, speed, and temp)
and interface that over to the Raymarine E90W display via seatalk.
You should be able to do that with your existing display if you wish.

Raymarine has some nice rebates going on right now too.

I know that it is an Airmar B744VL Transducer with Speed wheel and temp, and with a Raymarine 7 Pin connector. Its directly compatible with the Raymarine E7D, E90 & E120 series. I'm trying to figure out which other brand MFD's it can be used with, such as Garmin or Lawrence. I'm trying not to have to haul the boat to change the ducer just to make a small upgrade to the Electronics aboard.
