Trailering a 290 1200 Miles

I just bought a '92 290 sundancer on a triple axle trailer and pulled it 2.5 hrs home with my Chevy Duramax diesel. It trailered nicely... just make wide turns. It has surge brakes but I plan to install an Electric/Hydraulic brake controller for better braking and safety. here is a pic of the boat and my son as we were preparing to bring it home.

Congratulations on the new boat. We will need more pics and details?

I purchased a used 300DA in Miami a few years back and purchased a used tri-axle trailer for the boat. Then I hired a transport truck to move it to NJ. Some of these guys will run for very competitive rates if they are deadheading and they take care of the permits. So they can drop at a marina and then you can arrange for off loading. In my case, I took my Expedition and launched at the marina ramp. I've used this process many times for moves from NJ to Ct to avoid the longer ocean trip to get up to better boating areas around Block Island. Pull the boat myself and ready for trip...have a hauler pick up and deliver to desired point.

BTW, I paid $650 for the Miami to NJ trip but then diesel was much less expensive. It was pulled with a Dodge Cummins 2500.

I also took this boat to the Bahamas for 10 days prior to the move.

Hope you have a great time.

thanks...pics & details to follow.

Quint: I think that your '92 is basically the same boat as my '90 270DA. I picked it because of the cabin layout.
What I did change was the canvas configuration. ie: from a convertible to a Bimini top. Not difficult to do, but, made a world of difference.

Here is a link to a better picture of the top configuration if your interested (scroll down the page to see). http://rideaur.googlepages.com/ourtravellog
Trying to figure out how to post a picture directly is more "geeking" than I want to accomplish.

Yeah, same boat. Yours looks well kept. What is the advantage of the bimini set-up ?

Paul,
Beam is 9'. Sea Ray says 5800lb dry weight for boat. I am guessing about 10k total boat & trailer. Trailer is rated for 10500.

Quint:
Advantage of Bimini is greater air flow and visibility. I think that it looks better too.
I agree that the weight with fuel, gear, etc. is around 10,000 lbs
Oh, I also replaced the raggity old radio with a Sirius ready radio and CD player. I pulled the old radio, made a new backer plate, covered it with Black Formica, installed a new radio and CD player.
Here is a link to a picture of the mount:
