2012 Chaparral 267 SSX Sold

Boatless
As I have posted before, my 320 was for sale and I wanted to replace it with a smaller sport boat. I went to 7 different dealers to look at various brands including Skipper Bud's, my Sea Ray dealer, and none were willing to trade a higher value boat for a lesser value boat. Finally I went last Tuesday to the Chaparral dealer who is right across the highway from Skipper Bud's and started the conversation with "I have to sell my 320 before I can buy another boat." His reply was "sure I'll buy your boat." Well I brought the Admiral up Thursday and showed her a Sunesta 284 I was considering and she said too big and didn't like to design so we looked at some others. When we came to the 267 SSX she said that was the one so being the dutiful husband I said "sure Hun we can have that boat!!!" We ordered a 2012 that will be delivered in January with a 8.1L Volvo 400HP engine, vacuflush head, trim tabs, and will have the dealer install a Garmin GPS and battery charger. I took an older version of this boat out for a test drive this afternoon and was impressed with its easy planning, big block horsepower and lack of stern wander when moving at idle speed so I signed the purchase agreement an put down a deposit even though when we close I will get both the deposit and and cash differential back. Here are some pictures of another boat that is identical to what I am purchasing.

Dan,
I think we will still be here next Spring with the way the real estate market is. If so we will be back at Prairie Harbor on a month to month slip rental with the new boat that will be delivered to the dealer here sometime in January.

Congrats Bob, Sharp looking boat! Now 22 year old hotties will be looking at you instead of the other way around. :smt043 Does the Admiral know that?

Good luck with the house sale, MM

Bob - did they give you an agreed upon price for your boat? Or, are they going to sell it for you and apply the amount towards the new boat (minus commission?)?

Dennis,
The deal is for my boat a check for the trade differential. Because with the elimination of sales tax with the trade and the avoided winter storage cost I got the equivalent value for my 320 as if I sold it under a brokerage agreement with a 10% fee. Skipper Bud's, where I bought the boat 2 years ago, would not take a trade for lesser value boat is why I went with the Chaparral. The Chaparral dealer wanted my boat because they could offer a V Drive alternative to there outdrive only cruisers.

I knew when the Admiral chose this style boat and color scheme that it would definitely be a chick magnet!! Perhaps she still feels like a 22 year-old hottie so who am I to argue!! The irony was that I suggested the more conservative Sunesta line but she chose the more sporty SSX line! Hmmm maybe she is the one looking for a 22-year old male hottie!!!:wow:

OK. I just had a wandering suspicion that they were trying to pull a fast on you and didn't want to see you get taken advantage of...... In other words: They "trade" your boat, but don't actually give you a set dollar number for the boat until they actually sell it. And then they end up selling it short on you and you end up being out $30K (for example).

I hold the title to my boat along with the USCG Documentation so there is no way they can sell the boat until I sign it over to them. They won't get the title until I get the new boat, the 4.74% financing contract, and a check for the trade differential as set out in the bill of sale.

You going to play with that 26" boat in the bathtub over the winter?LOL

Bob,

Congrats on the new ride - looks like it should be a lot of fun. What dealership did you end up going through for your trade - we have some friends that are looking to upsize to something in the 320 range and I know yours would be in exellent shape for them to consider at the dealership.

Thanks - PM me if you don't want to put specifics in reply.
