Towing impact on the MPG on your vehicle

When I tow my 220SD I loose about 5 mile per gallon. I tow with a dodge ram 1500 or a Ford Expedition

I recently pulled mine from Midway Ga to Panama City Beach Fl, a little over 300 miles and got about 11 mpg where normal is 14 to 15. See signature for boat and truck.

I tow my rig with a suburban. Just drove 700 miles to Charleston, SC without the boat and got 17.1 MPG.

With the boat I get 10.6MPG. The good thing is I only have to tow the boat once or twice per year to the slip (84 miles one way).

Boat probably 5000lbs loaded, not including trailer.

...Used to tow a 19 and 21 with a Ford Explorer. Got about 13 mpg towing, vs. 18 mpg without the boat. V8, tow axle.

Looks like everybody's numbers are about the same proportions, so you can make an educated guess.

My Escalade gets about 10MPG when towing my 240DA.

Alex.

Vehicles - Ford Expedition 5.4L, GMC Sierra 6.0 Liter

Boat - 250 DA

MPG - Always 9.5 - 10 MPG (Lose 5 or 6 MPG when towing)

When using the "Tow" mode on my GMC, it would slam into each higher gear with a huge lurch like popping the clutch, so I rarely used it. I would shift gears using the gear select lever after letting off the gas a little - it was smoother that way.

Towing a 185 Sport with an '03 F150/5.4/3.55 and I go from about 16 to 13. I disengage the overdrive on inclines.

i have a ton of questions for all of you, but the one that is on mind at the moment is the impact on the miles per gallon while towing your boat. can you please let me know. i have to do a nice drive to go get my new boat.

Mine gets GREAT Mileage when it's being towed! I never have to fuel up!

Pulling with my Honda Ridgeline, I drop from about 17 MPG (city) to about 15 towing. That's half freeway 65 MPH and have 2-lane 55 MPH.

Those Honda's have that economy thing figured out.

When comparing MPG at about 60 MPH, my mileage drops from 20 unloaded to 12 - 12.5 pulling the 270.
