Most people in that King/Pierce/Thurston/Snohomish county area are clueless when it comes to how the real world operates. Prince Barack tells them how to think and they just blindly go along with him.

I feel the way I do about profiling not because its a liberal or conservative issue, it is just wrong. Nobody should be singled out because of what their ethnic heritage or religion is.

Following your logic we should also stop and search all 20-40 year old white males too?

While I agree that we all assume where the primary threat is coming from - I don't agree that profiling is the way to address it. Whether you agree with the principle of profiling, or not. And I'm not saying I do or don't, I'm saying it would be ineffective and unreliable.

- You can't tell someone's religion by looking at them. Muslims blur the racial lines just like most other religions. White, black, asian, even hispanic.
- Just as soon as you place all of the focus on one stereotype, the tactics will shift and you'll miss the boat.
- Muslim extremists aren't the only dangerous people out there.
- Not all Muslims are a threat. Or even the majority of them. And if they are - then the battle is over already and we just don't know it yet.

So while I agree there is a better answer than invasive body searches on little kids and old ladies - I don't think profiling will get us where we want to be.

I don't think profiling is good for any society but tell me how we police our country without convicting the innocent and penalizing them for someone else’s crime. The scare and bare tactics of our current administration is meant to bring the rank and file into line. It’s meant to bring us into a more submissive state. It’s meant to promote corporate thought instead of individuality.

We are hand fed by a media that sway minds made of mashed potatoes. Minds that have no individual thought process because they have been tlt fed by government programs.

Please don't come back with how you made good on your own. If you would have truly made it on your own you would be made as he77 at the way the government has taken a huge part of it away from you. Seems to me that there are two points of view.

The main view I hear in this thread has these basic points;
1) It is "us" vs. "them". You are either "with us" or "against us".
2) We must do everything possible to protect ourselves from this "threat". They can hurt us at anytime.
3) We should use the enemies tactics to defeat them. Profiling, Torture, warrentless searches, squashing of dissent are all valid tools in the cause of the just.

Let's call this the "Iron fist in a velvet glove approach".

I approach things differently.
1) We are answerable to ourselves. We are not answerable to "them". Why should we care a rat's behind about some unshaved whacko's living in caves?

2) There are lots of whacko's out there who mean us harm. And we are blasting them off the hillsides in wholesale quantities. They threaten us. . we kill them.

3) They can do NOTHING to us. We are not afraid of some whackos lighting their shoes or butt's on fire. Yeah. . people die occassionally. So what? We probably have more people die due to lightning strikes. Or in due to motorcycle accidents. I don't hear much about lightning strikes or about motorcycle safety. I shouldn't hear much about "anti-terrorism" measures. . .

4) Yeah. .let the goobermint go after the bad guys. .but they don't have to be THUGS to do it. We are not men living in caves. We are not THUGS. The feds can't grab my junk, read my email and track my financial transactions, nor can they enter my home without the decency of knocking first. And we can debate all day long about it. At the end of the day. . if they touch us, a guy sitting behind a video screen in California will send a smart bomb through their window and be home in time to watch Monday night football with the gang. I don't really care if we look "weak" to "them". They are *irrelevant*.

I call that the "Live Without Fear Approach".

Living without fear does NOT involve surrender. Does NOT involve compromise. Does NOT involve negotiation.

True enough. But not all airline bombings were. And not all terror attacks in this country were either. I'm not saying Muslim extremists aren't a concern. They are a major concern.
