I handed down my iPhone 6 to my daughter because I got an 8 today. The mute switch on the 6 never worked right so I hit it with some contact cleaner and that fixed it. Full of confidence I decided to spray the contact cleaner into the mic because it always sounded muffled. The end result was contact cleaner forced into the screen and trapped with no air to evaporate it. So she now has this. The white areas are normal. All the dark and off white areas are the solvent trapped. I've read all the wonder treatments for water in screen. None give me confidence they will work. Anyone got any ideas? Will it eventually evaporate over time? Can the techs at the store take it apart to evaporate it? There is no damage to the function of the unit since it's not water. My daughter is not too happy with me.

Three things come to mind. 1) rubbing alcohol my help clean it out and dry more quickly. If you go this route I would use the same water treatment steps as well. 2) hit the local ifixit/repair kiosk for replacement of glass, or guidance on if it can be fixed. 3) break out half a boat buck or so for a replacement....

Good luck.

Well, if all you think it is, is moisture... I would put it in a warm/ dry place....Not over-heat, but simply warm, like high 80's....Perhaps a hairdryer or heater placed a few feet away.

you will be lucky if the moisture didn't short something.

I have restored wet I devices by putting them in a bag of rice but they were never the same even if they functioned.

The same places that can replace screens with aftermarket can take it apart and clean it. New screen is only $100, so maybe $30 in labor?

I have fixed iphones in the past that had been dropped in water by taking them apart and soaking the parts in rubbing alcohol then letting it dry out. Fixed 3 or 4 like that.

Good news. My daughter ran all her normal apps overnight which heated up the phone some. Looks like most the solvent has now evaporated.

Cool. Good news!

Only next time dont include your phones number visible
Why not? Everyone's phone numbers are all over the internet. Plus there are no names associated with any of the numbers in the first picture. I remember the days of a phone book. With names numbers and addresses.

I had my 6+ fall out of my top pocket and into a large solvent tank. Screen looked much worse than yours. Did the baggy of rice thing overnight and it cleared up the bulk of it. 8 mos later now and still going strong. Just a hint of the light discoloration near the edges now.
One of the young guys I work with said amazon has replacement screen kits available for well under $100 that come with the required tools and can be replaced in a few mins. He said he has replaced 2 for cracks now.

Yeah I have fixed a few older iphones but not anything 6 or newer. I used screens from ifixit.com. Always worked fine.
