I generally close off the windbreak partition below the windscreen on my 20' bowrider when placing the two snap-on tonneau covers before towing. Yesterday, I left it open and the main tarp started flying loose on the road. There were other possible factors. I am back to my theory that the masses of air in the two separate compartments should be isolated from one another to diminish their combined pressure. This theory is elaborate but seems to work.

I always closed the door on our Sundecks.... made a huge difference when towing
I also put a rag between the door and the frame as the boat flexed and scratched the frame at the top

I have a marine canvas business and often convert to a one piece cover when doing new for this reason and for ease of use in general.

He made one for me and I couldn't be happier! Also kept all the debris and water that inevitably snuck in between the two covers out.

If the weather was that heavy that you need a plywood bow cover I would just stay home. But that's just me.
