Never had a real head on a boat before.

New to me 1998 290 DA

Toilet foot pedal activates water flowing into the bowl and the ball opens up like I am used to seeing on RVs before but almost right away water seemed to have filled up what ever small tank is directly below. I tried flipping on the Macerator switch at the breaker panel with no results.

What do I do next?

Not sure

I don't recall a "Head " breaker. I flipped a breaker that says "Macerator".

I will look tomorrow.
Ok, I'll try to check this thread tomorrow to make sure you got it. Not sure where your at on Lake Saint Clair but you could be close to someone that can help.

Hey man, same boat as us. Your breaker for the vacuflush generator is called “ head system” The macerator does not need to be on, and really shouldn’t be as you’re on inland water. The big through hull for the macerator is in front of the starboard engine, should also be closed.

When you flip the breaker on you should hear the vacuum generator start pulsating to generate vacuum. If you don’t, go into the bilge and tap the right side of the vacuflush (towards the stern on starboard side behind hot water heater) with a screwdriver or something. If that kicks it on you probably have a stuck vacuum sensor. They get gummed up with “waste”. You can try and clean it, or replace it for about $100. The other place to try to tap is right on the pump motor, sometimes those stick too.

If it doesn’t turn on you might have to start probing for voltages at the pump, but try the simple tap stuff first.

Check out the “official 1998 290” thread too. A few of us with these boats pretty regularly post in there.
Let us know how you make out. I’ve replaced about every part on this boat and am more than willing to help you through it

We have another satisfied customer folks. Now he just needs to be educated about his macerator use for inland waters. That can be a new thread for another day.
And... don't be afraid to read an owner's manual - the directions for head use and macerator use are in there. Hmmm... what do you know! :) Lot's of other useful information in the owner's manual, as well.

I don't know if it's the same on his 290, but on my '02 340DA, the thru hull for outflow from the macerator has a switch that disables the macerator when the seacock is closed. (Which of course it should be, and with a lock or zip tie keeping it closed. They check that every year when I have my CGAux courtesy exam.)
