To ease the Cabin Fever.

yahhh umhuu shore will, where, come on tell us.

You did this on purpose didn't ya?! I bet you didn't want to make it look easy so no one else will try to take on this much work! :smt043

There hasn't been anything easy about this project!

Hang in there. Once you get all this stuff done in spring it will give you a stress free summer of great times.

Nice job Blew. You have been busy with the old girl! We sold our 88 268 last year. Great boat, we loved it. I had the big block in mine, I cant imagine a pair of sixes with a gennie down there! YIKES. I have been restoring an 88 300 sundancer for the past year. Tons of work, but these old classic ladies are well worth the effort. I will post a couple of photos after I resize them. Dave
You are so right, these boats are pure classic, and the quality is wickedly high. I've never seen a268 with twin six cylinders but it would be a nightmare. I'm living in my boat in Central New York and the bed is really comfortable, the v Berth draw curtains are like new, I'm working on the teak exterior right now,a true labor of love going on.

Ok, how do you add heat and a/c? Does it run off engine heat/water?

I've got the hot engine water bypass to heat the hot water tank. I'm thinking of removing the hot water tank and adding cabin heat for those spring fall trips.

Thanks!
Get that little$10 heater they sell at Walmart. Works perfect
.

If you look back to my thread on 1-20-2011 You will see the manual head sitting in place. I am going to be running the hoses tomorrow and mounting the tank in place. I will take a few more pics. It looks like everything is going to come out nice and clean. The tank I got is an 18Gal made by Sealand, got it from Defender marine for around $280? I really, really wanted to go with the vaccuflush, but I just couldn't justify spending $3000.00 for tank system, and toilet bowl. WIth this project, I will get away with about $700 with manual head, tank, hoses, and clamps. However, Jabsco makes an electric conversion kit for my head for about $200.

FYI: IDK about on your boat, but when I did some looking around I found out the factory ran the wires for the macerator and tucked the wires under the sink. Black and orange #10 ga. wire. They go to the fuse block that is mounted on the transom in the engine compartment.
Yeah, I remember seeing that on mine too. So with the system in and working exactly what happens? Can you still use the same pump out opening? The Y valve would then determine whether or not you are using the new 17 gallon holding tank, or the smaller waste reservoir right under the toilet seat? Do I need to change my toilet at all?

Hi Jack,

I used to have the little porrti potti set up that came factory, w/ pump out. I did not have the macerator option. With the tank I installed I was able to still use my pump out fitting, but I had to run a hose from the tank I mounted in the engine compartment. The tank I bough had 1 inlet and two out lets. I designed my system to be able to discharge in the ocean, or at my house via a hose connection that comes out the transom of the boat, or pump out at the docks.
The system has performed well over the years. I did change my overboard pump to a Whale Gulper (Diaphram) pump rather than traditional macerator. The only regret I have is the type pf toilet I put in(Hand Pump Type), which I'm actually in the process of replacing. Just bought a Thetford EZ-Fit toiled with a Turbo macerator. I'll see if I can get some photos going.

Let me know how this goes for ya.
I'm not at all sure what to do but I gotta make a change... I appreciate the remark about having to run a different pipe.
Thought provoking.... I'm going to try to send you some pictures of the plumbing (OEM) that exists just under the sink area in the head. I'm following you!

My goal was to get the Portti Potti out of the boat and get a toilet that was a little more...friendly. I wanted the waste out of the head area and in the engine compartment. With your set up, it was designed so that the portti potti tank could either be pumped out, or discharged overboard....hence the need for a Y-Valve. My system does not need or utilize the Y-Valve as my tank had outlets available for both pump out and overboard discharge. I do wish I had put in a bigger tank. When we get 2 couple out on the hook for 3-4 days that tank fills up fast. The new toilet I ordered is .5-.7 gal per flush...so that should help.

Good to see you around Blew.

Do you have a1988 Searay 268DA?

Perfect. Do you have any drawings that might show me the way to proceed with installing a17 gallon waste holding tank,? This thing has me puzzled
