Short notice, but I posted it on SRO just before it went down.

We are doing a 3 day trip on the TN river 10/13-15/2006 if anybody is interested. Still have room avl.

This is short on notice but big on fun. Please respond with the number of people who will be attending and what type of boat you will be taking.

Fall Colors Cruise Itinerary

Day one Friday October 13th

8:00 AM launch at Riverpark Boat Ramp- near mile marker 470

4501 Amicola Parkway.

We will immediately raft up to prepare for captains meeting.

Fuel up before launching or departure,

next fuel is 40 miles.

9:00AM Captains meeting Roll call; check in (locking instructions and cruising order)

river trip is approx. 125 miles each way

Fuel stops are Hales Bar & Guntersville

Teamwork: Cruise order & Lock decisions

VHF Radio Check: Channel 68

9:30 AM depart raft up

Maintain a safe but comfortably close cruising distance- high mountains and river bends make radio contact difficult as line distance increases.

Stunning scenery with deep gorge vistas for next

39 miles to Hales Bar Marina fuel stop MM 431

Continue 6 miles to Nickajack Lock & Dam MM 425

Stay in the channel the markers –outside the channel is shallow in many places with rock bottoms and an abundance of Hydrilla and Milfoil to foul your props and the cooling water intakes.

11:45AM Lunch Raft Up/Tie Up @ Shellmound Recreation Area MM 425

Large cove to starboard immediately before Nickajack Lock and Dam

12:45PM Muster for Nickajack Lock pin assignments

This is one of the largest locks on the river,

nearly twice as wide & long as Watts Bar/Ft Loudon locks!

There are 12 mooring pins inside.

Suggest using Starboard 2nd,3rd,4th & 5th from front

Wall to starboard side.

Let the four boats tie to the floating mooring bits first,

Then the bigger boats proceed to raft up in descending size

Raft up safely, stop your momentum before giving your lines.

Stay tied until the horn blast all clear.

Outermost boat of front group departs first one by one until entire front group is clear.

Depart from Lock one group at a time from front to back,

It’s not safe to have loose boats passing each other in lock.

1:30PM Cruise to Guntersville….

68 miles to Alred Marina/ Covenant Cove Resort & Marina

4:00PM Arrival @ Guntersville, Alabama….

MM 358.5 Covenant Cove Resort: Before the bridge Sport Boats under 8’2†turn south (PORT) into Big Spring Creek. Keep green markers on your port side 8’2†vertical clearance at bridge. We will have rooms for those of us not staying on our boats at the Holliday Inn. 1-256-582-2220

MM 357.5 Alred Marina: All other boats pass under the bridge, turn north (STARBOARD) to marked channel.

Recommend you fuel up now

Settle into slips

These marinas are 15 minutes shuttle by land and only about 1.5 miles by water, perhaps a water taxi of a 240SD would be better than solely using the shuttle van

Fuel up tonight for the morning.

6:30PM Dinner on your own / group

Suggest: The Blue Parrot and Bistro @ Covenant Cove Resort, everybody who ate there raved about it.

Day Two: Saturday October14th 2006

Note: We will be in the central time zone (recommend waiting until we dock at Guntersville before making the change)

8:30AM (CTZ) Depart to Ditto landing approximately 24 miles

It is 9 miles to the Dam we should arrive at Ditto Landing at approximately 11:00

From Ditto Landing we will have a shuttle to the Space and Rocket Museum

We will leave the Space Center at 3:30 and depart Ditto Landing at 4:30

We will arrive back in Guntersville at 6:00PM (insure all of your running lights are in working order we will be getting close to sun set)

Day Three: Sunday October 15th 2006

8:00 Voluntary worship service

9:00 Depart Guntersville Cruise Lake Guntersville 68 miles to Nickajack Lock & Dam

12:30PM Arrival @ Nickajack Lock Gate MM 425

1:30PM Lunch Raft up/Tie Up @ Old Hales Bar, fuel stop MM 431

2:45PM Departure for Chattanooga….

Cruise Nickajack Lake 33 miles from Hales Bar

4:00PM Arrival @ Riverpark Boat Ramp- near mile marker 470

Sorry all, but it looks like the trip is going to be a wash for the weekend. Too short of notice and the weather is not looking good this weekend. We may try to do it again soon. Let me know if you might be interested.

I'll let you know as soon as I find out when we can do it. When would it work for you all?

Ok trying to see if anybody wants to do a late fall TN river trip on 10/28-29/06. Let me ASAP.
