Tips and tricks

For stripped out screw holes in fiberglass, fold a zip tie in half. Stuff the folded end just barely into the hole. Start drilling the screw into the zip tie/hole while holding the zip tie from turning. It will anchor itself. Once screw is all the way tightened, cut off the ends of the zip tie flush at fiberglass with a razor blade. This works especially well for cover and carpet snaps.

Goodbye.

Hello!

Full control over how much water gets to each unit, and the ability to shut one off while filling the other with anti-scale. 14 bucks. the other "custom" splitter lasted 22 years. Doesn't owe me a thing.

For those of us with the cooler built into the cockpit entertainment center, you can turn it into a poor man's live well by adding a pump and plumbing.

When I anchor out, I like to tie my inflatable off to the side of the boat so I have room to fish off the back. Begin the annoying squeak as the dinghy rubs against the side. If you spray some WD-40 on the contact points, it quiets it down for at least a full day and night.

This also works on your fenders when rafting up.

Discovered (or rather remembered) this one this past weekend. Every tool on your boat should have a hole in it. The great tool sucking river wants your tool and it wants it bad. Tie a piece of string or fasten a laniard so you don't add to the accumulating junk pile under the docks.

And another sock tip. Let's say you remove your socks for a quick dip, or a shower, or a spa, or whatever. Remember to put them back on the same foot. They have a memory and if you swap them they will feel uncomfortable until they "forget".

This one may be a little boat specific. My swim ladder slides into a recess and has a hinged cover. If you open the cover, you'll see there is room to install a Magma pedestal mount for your BBQ. Now when you put away your BBQ and close the ladder hatch, your swim platform is left smooth as a baby's bottom, which rumor has it, is very smooth. You could also use this to mount a fishing chair, a bait table...whatever

LOL.... where are the other sock tips ?

I think I posted one earlier about buying all your socks the same size and color so you don't have to sort them. If not, I should have :)
I get them 2 dozen pairs at a time. Haven't had a mis-match in decades! (Of course, I didn't wear socks too much in 2020, and 2021 is looking like a repeat)

I don't know how this turned into a sock thread but I'm in.

I'm not sure I could go through life with 1 color of socks. Don't you guys have fun socks days? Nothing better than being "fully put together" for work and then sit down and have an entirely inappropriate pair of socks on.

Awesome idea!

If you like fun socks, go full out and don't match them at all. Laundry day will be easier and most people will think you are stylishly quirky. (well, truth be told - some will think you are really hung over that day - but what do they know about fashion, right?)

In keeping with the spirit of this thread. When you pack away glassware prior to moving, put each glass or cup in a sock to protect it along its journey.

I use old socks like mittons when i stand in the water and scrub my waterline. Lost way to .any sponges and it also protects your nubbins if you hit a trim tab or something. The admiral laughs at me everytime but i dont care.
