It is time to redo my bottom paint and having never done it before I was wondering how hard it is to reapply over the factory paint? If I pay to have it done what is a reasonable price for labor and supplies on a 34 ft boat?

I need to do the same and I've never done it. How do you know when to break out the sand blaster and blast off all the old crap.

i've been told its about $500-$600 for a 27 footer. The cost of the paint is about $100.

what kind of paint do you have on there now? hard or ablative?

Sea Ray uses ablative from the factory. Hit it with a pressure washer in a fan setting to get the scum off. Let it dry. Sand anything that allowed bare glass to be exposed. That could mean the bottom was not prepped correctly in that area. Two or three coats of paint over the existing.

There are a couple of schools of thought on this depending on how often you intend to haul her. Three coats if you intend to leave her in for more than 2 years. The first coat is a contrary color to the next two. Red under black for example. That allows you to spot paint on a short haul in between long hauls. If you are going to pull her every 2 years, a couple of coats of the color of your choice will be fine.

Good Luck.
