Had an issue with the port tilt motor today on my 77 Sundancer 240 with twin 470's. Was testing the port tilt and it would go up but not down. I checked the oil and it was really low so refilled. Tried to go down again and the clear hose came off the pump and puked out the oil but didnt notice it right away. I then reconnected the hose refilled the pump and now I have no power to the switch for any direction. I can make the it go up by jumping across the solnoid posts but not down so I have power directly to the solnoid I plan on checking fuses. Any other help would be appreciated. And how can I indirectly get the outdrive down.

I would buy two replacement solenoids, anot 30 dollars a piece if your sure your online fuse is good . I used power jumped directly from a battery to the pump side of the down solenoid when mine failed till I could get to the chandelry for new solenoids.

My system only has a single solenoid and schematic shows a 90 amp fuse. I think what has happened is I have maxed out the trim limit and it shut off power to the pump, I just need to find the down wire and jump it to lower the unit. The unit was working after I filled the reserivor for a short time and then the clear hose popped of the lower fitting on the pump and blew out all the oil with the unit in the up position. I have the pump refilled again but no power at the switch now so I think its the trim switch has shut off the power. Thanks for your reply.

Replaced the solenoid and no change still dead so I think perhaps problem my be a ground issue so I am going to add a ground wire to the system in case the oil that blew all over has knocked out the ground circuit. Tomorrow will see.

Update!!! Well today got in the boat tried the switch and the down button worked??? The other two buttons still dead. after I ran a black wire from the black wire terminal on the solenoid to the neg on the battery still no response on the top and center button just the bottom button. I can jump and get the outdrive to go up bottom button goes down top and middle nothing. I beginning to suspect the problem is in the wiring from the switch, will check that tomorrow. Before all this happened I had a voltage gauge not working and discovered a loose ground connection that fixed it. After tightening the connection a little while later the tilt trim went south. May or maynot be a connection, I plan on playing with the trim pucks tomorrow to see if there is some dirty contacts. Will also clean the purple wire at the engine along with double blue wire and any other wires that could of gotten oil on them when the line blew. The fact that I had some operation today points toward a dirty connection somewhere I believe, any other thoughts out there?

Well cleaned the insides of both port pucks but made no difference so I can only think it can be the switch or the cable from the switch so I will look into getting the switch and cable off of Ebay and try that. If that doesn't work then I will figure out some way to gerry rig it direct from the trim pump. Still need to check continuity in the blue and purple wire from the switch before buying parts, short on help to do that. Will figure out how to run wires with power to the switch area to check at the plug. Clear as mud right? LOL Trying to follow some of the blogs that have suggestions. Have not found any fuse's or circuit breakers for this early system.

Is there a round plug on the side of the 1977 unit? I have not seen one that old, but I have worked on an 80’s model.

When I tested my system, I picked up a two-direction rocker switch for an ATV winch from ORielly and wired it directly to the plug when my handle switch went out. It worked fine. Allowed me to by pass all the wiring from the pump to the throttle controls.

This has a dash mounted three button switch that goes up down and trailer, has been on 70's models for a long time. I has always had a bit of a hard time with it as it is a bit confusing to me. I can get it to work by wiring direct to the wires on the pump but that only does up and down. Looking for a another switch setup like I have, Ebay has some but they look a little wore out and questionable and a bit expensive for what they are. May go your route and bypass this switch and settle for up and down.

My pump has two solenoids. You mentioned yours has one.
I would not attempt to tell you how to wire that.
I like the old stuff, but I just have no experience on anything prior to 1989.

It is the MR Pre alpha outdrive on a 77 sundancer with twin 470's. I am still trying to figure out the issue still think it is a ground problem.
