Throttle /shift electrical question

Hi, I have an older Sea Ray 220 DA(1989) Can anyone tell me what the micro switch inside the throttle shift control box is for, I think its to stop you starting the engine when its in gear, is that right . I have been trying to get the side panel off for re-upholstering and when I took the throttle handle off the micro switch inside fell apart. Can anyone advise me where I can purchase a new one, or do I need a complete new control box:smt089. Thanks

Yes that would be the neutral safety switch. I doubt you need a new control box. Mercrusier has a good web page for looking these things up. However you need your serial number of the Merc.

The switch in the control handel itself is for trim functions, the safety switch in is the control box itself. You can view the manuals here.
Control is the last one to the right. Click on Mercruiser ,then cursor over to the last manual.
