My boat has twin 4.3 mercruisers 1995. The throttles are stiff and hard to operate. Im thinking about about having new ones installed. Should this make a big difference?I would think 13 years of technology should help. I need them to work as smooth as possible because im putting a 9'8" beam boat into a 10' slip.(':smt021')I have no room to play. I would like to hear from some people how have upgraded thiers an what kind was used?

Is it a version of the QuickSilver 3000 throttles? Not sure if they made them for twins or not, but if so around that year, they are pretty sloppy. I've looked at new ones too; they have to be better than those.

Time

I was facing the exact same issues on my '94. Nearly impossible to make throttle adjustment less than 500 rpm so I had the mechanic check it out and he said it was the throttle cables. I helped the rigger replace them - took about 3 hours and we had to drill a new hole to run the cables as the original is just so tight we would still be there. Things are much better now but my controls are so worn that I have the tensioners backed right off and the starboard control is grinding. I guess it's going to me new controls as well.
