Does anyone know what type of thread GLBTC uses on their Sunbrella canvas products? Do they use something that is the quality of Tenara? That would be a bit surprising, given their competitive pricing compared to custom work.

I have full canvas in Toast Tweed and I am resewing some areas of it. Wondering if it makes sense to pay up to buy the exact “tan” thread from them that they used, or go with a V-92 polyester UV that is much cheaper and is a fairly close color match.

Thanks!

Have you asked GLBTC? My interactions with them have been very good. Great customer service.

Thanks, yes, all they will tell me is they use Fli-Tec. I would need to know more than that before paying $80 for a spool. Was hoping some of the folks on here who deal in GLBTC products might have some intel.

Not sure of the brand GLBT uses but it it looks like a V92 bonded polyester thread with UV protection - definitely not Tenara. You can tell by the feel Tenera is more like fishing line.

If you are worried about the match just get the clear Tenara thread - if you use V92 I would get the lubricated version and drop to a #18 needle.

Also depending on how old and how much longer you are expecting the canvas to last may be able to just use a V92 UV thread. Also keep in mind that while Tenara will not break down in sunlight the same way polyester bonded does, it will "snap" and break like a low test fishing if excess force is applied.

Is the $80 quoted for a Tenara equivalent lifetime or UV Bonded? If its for UV Bonded I would not spend that money as you are up in the Tenara range. For what you need you can get a 4oz UV Bonded in Beige from Sailrite for approx $16+shipping.

Exactly why I asked the question. Would never pay that kind of money without knowing exactly what I’m getting. I think I’ll be fine with the V-92 polyester UV I already have from Sail Rite.

That is what I use 95% of the time. ;) Now when I made the winter cover for my 340SDA I used Tenara because I did not look forward to restitching that.

I just used the UV Bonded on my visors and side curtains - I figure when it's time to restitch the thread I will probably just make new ones.

If you have questions feel free to ask and I will try to get you info. We also distributors for GLBT and run the CSR discount program for GLBT products.
