Is there such a thing as tape to seal where thread passes through canvas, canvas itself we spray every year and it's good but the holes where the thread passes through leaks.

any thoughts
thanks jamie

After construction? Nope.

During assembly and sewing of sunbrella I use a basting tape in the seams, and that waterproofs them.

Maybe someone else has a fix after the fact?

Any good water proofing spray will prevent leaks at needle holes except where water pools on the canvas. A good canvas design prevents pooling which should always be avoided. Sunbrella will mist in a hard rain but it is not unpleasantly wet.

They used to make a sealant just for that as I used it once for a top years ago so don't know if they still do or not. It actually worked pretty good.

I had leaking seams some years ago and used brush-on tent seam sealer. It worked well but the seams were dirt magnets after that. Stayed dry though. Darker canvas might not show as much.

I have seen a product similar to what your describing, was worried it would stay tacky though.

maybe a vulcanized rubber would work, it's not terrible just curious if anyone has fixed such an issue. I know next boat will be hardtop forsure.

Perhaps a beeswax crayon rubbed along the troublesome seam? You might have to RE-apply it occasionally, but it would be relatively cheap.

303 for fabric. Apply it carefully and do not get it on the wise glass. It works like a dream. When you go back and apply additional coats you will see it bead up and know you have totally saturated the fabric.

I clean our canvas every year and liberally apply 303 fabric protectant with a big sprayer and it hasn’t failed yet.

We apply the 303 every year as well works amazing. unfortunately the thread holes are too large, either the canvas shrank around them or the thread itself is smaller leaving holes you can see light through, Seems like there is a few options to try out this season that might help.

This isnt a big issue, its a rare occasion where water comes in but would love to find away to eliminate till we put new tops on down the road. Thinking next time around maybe Seamark vs Sunbrella.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions we are ready to splash any day now.

Jamie

Every spring I use a good canvas cleaner, allow to dry completely and than apply a good coat of 303 with a paint roller...
