any reason why i can't zip the bottom part off the support?

the support bar under the seat is shaped like a T. i just want to cut the bottom part off the T, allowing for a cooler to be stored under the seat.

how much support could the seat possibly need?

the bottom of the seat is about 1/4" plastic.
the support bar is another 1/3" of plastic.

does the bow filler cushion have extra support?

I can't answer specifics about your bow filler cushion, but I'll bet that seat needs it or it wouldn't be there. Maybe you could remove the "T" configuration and replace it with 2 or 3 thinner supports? I dont know. But Im guessing that if you just remove the brace, you'll be able to answer the question of "How much support could the seat actually need".

Go ahead cut it off. If the seat sags then you can always replace the part you cut off; hopefully, before any permanent damage to the seat occurs.

The perpendicular piece may be only 1/3inch thick but it appears to be several inches tall which is the direction it is giving the most strength.

Does the piece keep the seat from moving around when the seat is in place?

Does the entire brace need to be removed in order to fit a cooler? Another idea may be to add braces which could potentially fit on either side of the cooler - seat would still have the support and the 2 braces may hold the cooler in place. It looks like they used Starboard which is pretty easy to work with.

If the cooler is that big, you won't need the brace for support from sagging, the seat will be sitting on the cooler (until you take the cooler out). Maybe the brace is there to hold the seat from sliding foreword?

That would be my guess too, that it's there to help keep the seat in place. Maybe a smaller cooler? Did your boat not come with a cooler and a place for it or is this an extra cooler?

I have 2 suggestions:

1. Use a router to make a grove in the top of the cooler that will allow the seat T to sit inside the top. I doubt you would loose that much insulation in the cooler. This preserves the boat seat and you can always replace the cooler.

2. But if you really love your cooler, cut the seat T and then design something that will allow the cooler to sit at the exact height to allow the seat to rest on top of the cooler.

On the 250SLX, it is not a support. It is designed to hold the seat cushion in place. I would think it would be the same set-up on your 270SLX.
