We have chartered a trawler a number of times from cyc. In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful areas of the Great Lakes.

Look under other tab and trip planner. Must see's are The Benjamin's, Little Current, The Pool, Kilarney and the many island coves along the way.

Best time to go is late July early August

The Great Lakes aren't very houseboat friendly. Keep in mind, these "lakes" have tossed around and broken up more freighters than we care to think about.

The areas I would recommend you focus on include the North Channel of Lake Huron, where you can enjoy incredible peace and natural beauty:

The Western Basin of Lake Erie where peace is scarce but beauty is still available:

Or NW Lower Peninsula which is more of a blend of the previous two:

I don't actually know of any bareboat charters in Michigan or Ohio, but I haven't looked very hard for them either.

I've done houseboat vacations - 1 on Rainy Lake/Kabetogema and another on the Mississippi out of Alma, WI. I'd highly recommend the Rainy Lake or Voyagaire Houseboat outfitters on Rainy/Crane Lakes in northern MN. Voyagaire has a lodge that you can rent a room for the night before your trip. That was nice because it's about 5 hours from Minneapolis and lets you relax a little before taking off on the lake. It also gave you an little earlier departure. The Mississippi was fun too but a little more advanced in that you deal with the current and wing dams are everywhere.

That is a pool at a bar, you should see it late in the day. There are no kiddies in the area as you can see.

...and it's one of the SIX swim-up bars in Put-In Bay!
Six? I can come up with five, Mr Ed's with the Pirate Ship, Mist, Islander, Blue Marlin, and Sand Bar. What am I missing?

The Sand Bar is my favorite as it's off the beaten path a little and not as crowded or filled with idiots.

The last time the wife and I stopped in at Mr. Ed's, the one thing we both agreed on is that we are gettin' old!

Naw, it's 5. I was including Crash Landings, which isn't a swim-up.
