The "virus" What are your thoughts

And we believe them. If this is going to stop they willl have to shut movement down. IMHO
Trump stated in news conference yesterday when asked the question by media - Will you be ordering a shelter in place quarantine nationwide? His response was - The President does not have that authority. That order will come from State authority.

The mortality rate is climbing. I check it everyday - it has been hovering right around 1.2% - 1.3%. Yesterday it was slightly above 1.4% and today it is at 1.5%.

Except they don't know how many are infected and don't report/never had symptoms. That is actually the good news. I suspect the mortality rate will be lower than we ever will know for sure. And there are reports that many of the deaths would have occurred this year, without the virus. It is attacking the weak very hard.

A top expert in UK cut his estimate, that the government had adopted, of deaths from Covid-19 from 500K in UK this year, to 20K this year. And many of those 20K would have died this year from other preexisting illnesses. From 500K to 20K is a huge decrease. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/...ronavirus-deaths-in-uk-revises-to-20k-or-less

The UK government then wrote: "As of 19 March 2020, COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious diseases (HCID) in the UK." https://www.gov.uk/guidance/high-consequence-infectious-diseases-hcid

Went to the store again today. No crowds no panic only a few things not in stock. Good news I think...

Haven't all their stats nearly tripled since the 19th? Hopefully they are right.

My one daughter in Indy went to work today... she had 60 corona patients on ventilators.... 4 days ago she had 2

My other daughter in Denver was at a cancer hospital today... she was assessing people coming into the hospital... based on symptoms... she would turn you away. She turned a lot away and she was verbally abused....sworn at ... she said today she lost a little faith in humanity... she was directing them where they could go and do...and they were abusive...sad

my wife works in a pediatric office... they had their first patient lie to them about not having Coronas ....she brought two small kids in. So 2 doctors and 2 nurses were put on quarantine ...so we lost 4 helpers we desperately need because this woman lied.... there are alternative places to go...no reason for this

@Blueone - It's so nice that your daughter had some faith in humanity...I lost that about a generation ago...Your wife's story doesn't surprise me in the least.

People were laughing at China and their handling of the crisis....When the dust settles and you look at our response, I think it will be abysmal.... I understand we surpassed China today for "confirmed" cases...Not sure what that means, but I imagine we will be at double numbers by next week, if not higher with the increased testing.

My biggest worry is no gym and hanging around the house and eating I will be a fat f@ck before this over. The bike rides don't replace my normal routine.

Just went to the store today here too. Shelves were fairly stocked. Nothing I needed was sold out. Meat cooler was stocked. Bread, buns, etc. Much different than the last 2 times I was there

Do you think our abysmal response in comparison to China is due to the US (fed/state/local) government not locking down our social interaction as strictly as China or some other issue?

You might keep in mind where this Chinese virus came to begin with before you pass your judgement and criticize your government.

Perhaps you would enjoy being pulled out of your home, your family yanked from your house and arrested for suspicion of being contaminated or being labeled as a government whistle blower. If you don’t mind I’m sure there’s a cheap flight to Beijing... and I’ll be happy to pay the airfare.

Or you can steer your boat, which your “abysmal” government allows you to own and enjoy whenever you like, straight to an island 90 miles south of Key West. Just know they may not let you leave w that boat of yours cause the government owns everything there.

Allow me to quality my statement... that is IF you’re not a proud to be American kind of person.

Ummmm....sir....I was asking Boat Guy why HE said our response was abysmal. I did not say that. Please go back and read my post and make your response to Boat Guy.

Not a single best wax thread yet ?
lol. I just ordered some Presta Gel Coat and Meguiars Flagship yesterday. Been using that stuff for years. Love it!

@DWABoat - It's multifaceted...First, we had the advantage of time and squandered it. We had many people who are decision makers downplaying it and showing incompetence by their inaction. Further, it seems to me the inaction was likely due to not wanting to pay for it.

But, mainly the comparison I'm making is at the care level and the PPE of our clinicians. We had similar failures during the Ebola scare and apparently learned nothing. My observations are anecdotal and based on reports and observations and clinicians confiding in me. But, when we have a system where our clinicians are told to treat patients with C-19 and they are not given masks or tyvek gear, I find it abysmal.

We now have manufacturers ramping up production of PPE and vents, but why did it take so long? People will die because of the delay.

The goal has to be to stay ahead of the curve. I hope we can do it before we have to make decisions as to who gets access to medical equipment, etc. I understand there is a discussion now in the hospital community about mandatory DNR orders because the staff can't be protected.

I find it abysmal because we could have done better.

In regards to the lock downs, hands down a totalitarian regime has a huge advantage implementing a policy like this. Further, our cultural and behavioral differences are dramatically different.

At this point, I hope we get accurate data so that we can assess the situation and stay ahead of the curve.

I think yesterday was impactful for some because we surpassed all other nations for confirmed cases. To me, it was obviously going to happen. If I was to guess, I think we will double the cases in the next week and we will have to see how certain areas hold up.

Lastly, I'm on record here explaining the importance of masks in the general population. If we had production and inventory I'm fairly certain the guidance would be to wear at all times while in populated areas. The only countries not providing this guidance are the ones without the supplies.
