The "virus" What are your thoughts

The way I am looking at this is I believe there are several thousand more cases
Of the virus that is not confirmed. On the other hand I believe they have a accurate number of deaths. Which makes me believe the death rate is extremely low.
But it’s tough when it’s one of your loved
Ones though.

I think going forward we'll see two things:
1) Isolation of all at risk people -- elderly and immune suppressed.
2) Early treatment with therapeutic drugs. Let everyone go back to business and if they catch it, treat it early (keeping the out of the hospital), and build up herd immunity.

That’s a good one!

BTW: My daughter works for a big healthcare system here.
Of the people who need to be hospitalized with COVID 19, right now about 25% of them need an ICU bed (ventilator).
Again though, the vast majority of people who test positive don’t need to be hospitalized.
What happens to that 25% when the ICU beds are already full?

They seem to think they will have that covered.
as per the Governor today: Hospitalization projection rates are showing a slowing trend.
They’ve been converting regular beds to ICU beds and other spaces to accommodate regular beds.
With just over 30k positives there are 888 in ICU beds today.

I just heard this morning that a friend of mine in LA has it. Late 40’s but he is a smoker ..he’s currently being sedated and on a ventilator in ICU.

I just found out I have the symptoms and not sure it is COVID-19 or some sort of flu, will wait for the tests. In the meantime I just shut the company down and let my employees go home for two weeks with paid time off. Hopefully it's negative for the COVID-19 and a just fever this morning which has gone down some. Sucks... but what can we do during these tough times. I can't even take the boat out as Morningstar Marina is shut down for the duration or until further notice and my boat is in dry storage.

outbreak map of the US... look at the numbers coming out of NY, no wonder the Governor is screaming

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/heal...here-virus-has-been-confirmed-across-n1124546
I believe NY has run more tests than anybody in the country, by far. The big numbers in NY reflect that. Like Gov. Cuomo said, “We are the canary in the coal mine.” I think this virus is throughout the country, but without a lot of tests, you don’t see it reflected in the charts and graphics shown on the news. For most of us, we’ll probably become most aware of our own local situation by keeping an eye on the status of our local Emergency Rooms/ICU and eventually, funeral homes. Hopefully they”ll identify effective therapies and vaccines in short order.

That map is useless; how about erasing the borders and show concentrations; the picture would be quite a bit different. Seems like the map is the basis for state funding not actual data.
If you go to state department of health websites, you can usually get a county by county map. What you see is that the virus is concentrated in the cities (obviously). But you don't see the growth in the outer counties. For example, in IL outside the Chicago and suburbs, counties have less than 10 cases, many downstate have zero.

What is not credible?

Actually, I found it very believable, although I lack the ability to validate any of the information. If we want the Federal government to shrink away from putting more bureaucracy in every aspect of our lives and spending our country into financial collapse, the funding and government jobs must be cut somewhere. DOT, CDC, DOJ, EPA, DOL, DHS, OSHA, FAA, BLM, USFS, NPS, DOD, USDA, ..... from where do you cut?
Just because a bureaucracy experiences a budget cut, does not mean it cannot meet the original mission. That also does not mean we would have been better able to meet the pandemic. Fat, bloated agencies are less efficient.

Hope results come back negative.
Just heard we got our first 2 cases in my county. One lives 1/2 mile from me and bowls in my league. Bowling has been cancelled the last 2 weeks so I haven't seen him for at least 2 weeks now. I have known him about 20 years. He is in ICU at a Pittsburgh hospital.

Royal Caribbean has suspended all their cruises. Sounds like some idle cruise ships could be contracted for hospitals. I wonder why this was not proposed for New York and Seattle being port cities?

Actually I believe Carnival has offered their ships already.

Good. I have been on a Carnival cruise. Seems like it would serve the mission perfectly. Was the offer accepted? Could add hundreds of rooms very quickly.
