The "virus" What are your thoughts

I am the only one that mentioned spring break...and it was because a number of employees came to me to move up their vacation up one week because the governor said school would resume the day spring break was to start... My company and others are already locked down in our schedule thru April....for the governor to do something so stupid is ridiculous....It wasn't a conspiracy it was just a typical politician not using her head

As far as the unknown and the 24/7 hysteria on the news …. it needs to settle down.

Perhaps this might shed some light on part of the reason for the closures. Which, BTW, I support...

I was up all night w my teenager son, he was puking his guts out. Seemed every time a wave of puking passed he be running to the bathroom to puke again. The periods of rest weren’t more than 15 minutes in between. Earlier in the afternoon he had chills and sweats.
No nausea, just violent abdominal contractions over and over all night. What a mess I had to clean up in that bathroom.

This morning all he has are sore muscles from the strong contractions, weakness but no temps, no cough, not even a runny nose.

We sometimes forget there are lots of other bugs out there too.

I’m sure this one was brought home by my wife who works in patient access at a hospital...she denies it but where the hell else would he get that? He’s been home from school since Wednesday.

She says they’re taking over 100 phone calls per 12 hr shift from people wanting to get tested for free...even though they have no symptoms. Some are just showing up in the ED demanding they get tested. Some are showing up w entire family and yelling at nurses and doctors. It’s a madhouse.

The policy is if you have no symptoms you will not be tested. If you do have any fever AND shortness of breath to CALL your doctor. Your doctor will determine the next course of action, which may or may not include testing. Some doctors will direct you to a public health facility or a lab for testing.

Lots of people still confused about how to handle this virus but it’s not because they’re not being told what to do, even when it’s explained to them over and over many just refuse to comply and demand their “free” test for them and every member of their family.

People have lost control over their emotions.

I’m quite frankly disappointed in the behavior of the general public. A bad case of the flu and it’s every man for himself.

Shame.

Just heard from a friend of mine @ Delta that rumors of the airlines shutting down 15-30 days, this will be as bad or worse than 9/11, American is now offering 6,9,12 months leaves of absence and United will follow as well. Not to mention all theme parks closed in Orlando, schools, etc, etc..... Hang on folks this shit storm is just getting started.... But hey, it's just a little flu virus

Have we lost our minds ?

PA governor announced the other day that all public schools will close for 2 weeks. Wife works at a local school and just got a recorded call from her Superintendent saying she will not be compensated for those 2 weeks. We can survive a little while without her pay but wonder if she would be eligible for unemployment if this goes longer? And if she doesn't file now will she forfeit unemployment if she waits to file? 12 month employees will continue to get paid (custodians, etc) but all 10 month employees will not get paid.

She has about 80 sick days accumulated. Wonder if she can use those?

File right away for unemployment...you probably have a 2 week waiting period...so by filing.. that counts for this year...if it gets extended you will get unemployment insurance then

I am out and about today. It’s seems the
Restaurant’s are off over 50% and Walmart is kickin it.
I wonder how long it will take for some type of normalcy to appear.

It is likely something he ate. No bug, other than mild food poisoning, lasts less than 3 days. (I'm no doctor but did stay in a Holiday Inn Express about 20 years ago).

Yeah. With the calories he burns in hockey he eats anything and everything all the time.

Good call, I had not considered it may have been something he ate.

Are you calling Trump a moron

No. Not at all. In fact he made a great call restricting air travel from China vs waiting 6-months and for a thousand deaths.

The intensity of the focus on all this I believe adds to the irrational panic by the toilet paper brigade.

It’s a virus, just like the seasonal flu. More contagious but so far not as lethal as SARS, H1N1, and the others.

I see some here are implicitly cheering for this to be more severe purely for political purposes.

Karma is a bitch though. We do have that. It’ll only be time before Karma catches up w them.

You know who they are.

Or drank. It was St. Pat's day. :)
Kidding aside, it does sound like a food born illness. Did he eat out somewhere with friends?

Not official, but I'm guessing here in ILL we'll be on total lock down by Wed, if not monday. Economically, I think we are in for a world of hurt. It will make 2008-09 look like Disney land. Going to leave a mark.

This went from "take precautions, wash your hands" to "if you leave your house you will die." Part of me thinks we need the youth to get it and build up immunity as a vaccine is a ways off.

More people have died from drunk drivers so far this year than from this virus.... we haven't banned drinking or driving.

That's the thing. And the leathality is concentrated in the elderly and immune compromised population. They should be locking down nursing homes and the like. Elderly should be confined to their homes, with services provided to bring them essentials.

The percent of deaths has Covid-19 out pacing all of the ones you mentioned. The problem with Covid-19 you can have it and are contagious for 2 weeks before you know that you have it. Children for some reason get milder cases of Covid-19 this makes them ideal carriers to spread the disease.
None of us have lived through a world pandemic like this before the last was 1918.
People now seem to be buying enough supplies to lay low for a month or two, hard to blame them for that. This is all new territory for us.

So you believe that we should just go about business as usual and stay home when you get it?:eek:
