The "virus" What are your thoughts

My advice is to stock up on all the essentials for when the Coronazombies come over the hill:
1. Beer
2. Ammunition
3. Long guns
4. Short guns
5. Shotguns
6. Ammunition
7. Bar-B-Que coals
8. Ammunition
9. Beer
10. Oh and I guess some batteries for the optics.

Pretty scary stuff. We’re in Hawaii right now and spent a couple of days in Seattle last week before heading here.
Lots of Chinese people in both places.
We sat next to a couple and their daughter from China at a Luau the other night.

Stay away from airplanes (sorry guys, they are like Petri dishes) and hospital emergency rooms.

I frequently get sick after flying on an airplane. My doctor told me the same thing happens to him.
I’m very conscious of people hacking up lungs around me.
I guess they can’t help it but it really pisses me off.
We were in Reykjavík last year and took one of those mini buses from the airport in to town. There was a lady coughing up a lung in the seat behind us and doing little to stop the germs from spraying all over the place.
Unfortunately the mini bus was too crowded to change seats so I covered my mouth and nose with my jacket for the ride.

We were going to get Chinese food last night. But with all the corona stuff going around we decided on pizza instead.

I think people would be shocked at how little cleaning/disinfecting is done on aircraft.....I have seen instances where people have vomited in the seat, company swaps out the seat bottom, a couple swipes of a rag on the seat back (who knows what was on the rag or where it had been before) and let the boarding begin. Same thing with tray tables and head rests.Aircraft are scheduled so tightly, little attention is given to deep grooming let alone disinfecting. They don’t make money sitting on the ground.
The weak link is passengers’ self assess their health as being fit for travel...can you trust everybody when it comes to their trip of a lifetime when they want to go “home”? Unless it’s an obvious problem, the airlines are hard pressed to deny boarding.
And then there are the passengers origins... with commercial alliances who knows where the connections are coming from and what they have been exposed to. Hence, China’s problem will become ours.

We used to eat Chinese food often but we gave it up several years ago because of the sodium. Even at places where they have an option for no MSG the sodium in the sauces was still killer.

Are we sure this is a virus, or did they just open a Chipotle in China.

Our number 1 rule when looking at a Chinese restaurant is to drive around back first, and see if there are any pet collars hanging on the back door knob!

Yes it is real. As A Maryland EMS provider we have been briefed by our State Officials on the issue and are taking "additional" precautions with any patient that has traveled internationally or been in contact with same. It is similar to any outbreak - get the word out so that citizens are aware and can take proper precautions to avoid it. One of our local airports has direct flights to and from China, so awareness is elevated.

Damn Corona virus!

@Korkie Where are you working EMS? Are they providing you with personal protection equipment capable of protecting you from a virus? I don't think any EMS depts. budget for this type of safety. I recall the nurse panics at hospitals during the Ebola scare.

@Frtbroker - Don't quit your day job...(Ok, it was a little funny)
In Maryland. Our department provides gowns, gloves, masks (to include N95)eye protection in the way of glasses and enclosed goggles and if need be SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus). We also have immediate access to full hazmat protection. So we can determine the level of protection we need at any given time and move to that level when appropriate. Our available field level of protection is 2nd to none. The key is knowing when to deploy it. That is where the many hours of training come in.

@Korkie, that's the issue right there...When to get that equipment on. It's nice they provide it.
We have strict operating guidelines for certain levels of protection. We train our members to overprotective went there is any doubt.

I just came back from DC. Listened to HHS Secretary Alex Azar’s comments on this.

If you believe what you read and hear on the news you’re making a mistake.

China is not reporting accurately. See rate of spread as your clue.

The CDC won’t sound the alarms yet because they know what will happen.

The Fed has stores of Tamiflu, Relenza and other anti virals in regional distribution centers. Young and elderly will be first to treat.

Dr buddies can’t get any.

This is not the H1N1 virus scare.

Much different. I travel every week. I’d say 25% people in the airport are wearing masks already here in US.

Be afraid. Very afraid.

Is the mask effective at preventing the infection?
