The story behind your boat's name

My first boat was named "Oui Cheri" translated from French to English "Yes Dear"
Admiral frowned on it, 2 years later when she found out what it meant....grin
This boat is Julia Rose, my first grand child

1st boat was a Chaparral Signature 27 named "Cinco de Mayo" because original owners launched her for the 1st time on.......May 5th.......(the husband made the wife sell the boat because he did not like boating......another story). Not real superstitious but kept the name because we liked it and was our first boat.... Bought a 310 Dancer named Eubby and had to change it...so we ended up at Cinco de Mayo II...... Everyone who hears us talk about "Cinco" ( as we refer to her ) wonder why we go out on a boat named "Sink-o"

When I was 2 years old, my parents got me a puppy. A pure-bred German Sheppard, black and silver. Her name was Storm.
She's been gone now for years (had a very good life for 13 years), so I thought this was fitting.

My in-laws were surprised when they were greeted by twin girls a few weeks early when they thought they were going to have one son. Needless to say, they had no names ready.

The Rod Stewart song was playing in the room when it came time to put names on the birth certificates. My wife, the older by a few minutes, got named after the song Maggie Mae.

Her twin ended up with a modification of the boy's name they were going to use, Peti Lou.

The boat was a surprise purchase for both of us at a local boat show a month ago. Given that, Maggie Mae seemed like the perfect name!

Agree........Perfect......Good Luck......

My little 185 doesn't have a name, but the 290da was "Little Lady" it came from my nickname for my wife when we were dating - would always call her Little Lady. I could give a big list, but a friend who was in the mortgage business and recently divorced named his boat "LoanSum" - Boat names are great, there is usually a good story behind them.

Part of the Admiral's Hawaiian name is Pualani (Heavenly Flower), so our first boat (Catalina Capri 16.5 daysailer) is so named. Sailed it one time (mid-size chop, winds gusting to 15 kts) with the Admiral hanging on to the boom for dear life. She said (between screams) "We need a bigger boat!". I said, "I heard that!" Along came Pualani Nui (Big Heavenly Flower), a 25-ft Catalina sloop. Next, our family suddenly expanded to six, with two young pre-teens, who needed something more spirited than a sedate sailboat like Pualani Nui, so I started Internet shopping and found our 1986 Sea Ray Seville $100 boat. The Tribe did some Hawaiian language research, and came up with Ohana Nani Nui (Big, Beautiful Family).

Island Time:

When hanging (or chillin' or limin') in the tropics, time becomes quite relative .... almost optional.... where you don't do anything by the clock. A total state of relaxation where deadlines simply don't exist. It's often referred to as being on "Island Time". That's how we think of our time boating.

Also, we live on an island in the middle of the Niagara River, just above Niagara Falls ( you can see the mist of the Falls from my marina outlet), so it has a secondary meaning.

Also.... all of our vessels have been named Island Time .... and we do not number our boats. Sort of like Air Force One..... whatever boat we occupy is Island Time.

My boats name is SublimeTime

sub·lime

səˈblīm/

adjective

adjective: sublime; comparative adjective:

2.
archaic

elevate to a high degree of moral or spiritual purity or excellence.

Sublime describes the time we spend on our boat perfect.

Blew By You--

Came to be when my parents bought the first "Green" 268 we had back in 88'. Southwest marine dropped the boat trying to get it on the trailer, (Rear Sling Let go), my mom and dad refused to take delivery. Sea Ray wouldn't warranty the hull. (I was three at the time). (Side note, I wanted to name the Green one, "The Green Booger.) Southwest sent us to their Page, AZ store to pick up another one, which turned out to be blue. Parents wanted to name her after the Linda Ronstadt song, "Blue Bayou" but rather than take the name exactly made it a play on words, "Blew By You." For those of you who don't know the story, Dad pissed me off and sold her in 2005, I found her on Craigslist in 2010 and bought her back....She will always be my boat. Name has never changed.

'Happy Place'.....

I think the name is self explanatory......it seems that no matter how bad 'life' is treating us either at work or our personal lives we always find refuge at our boat....when I am driving to the marina and crest over the last hill and see the lake and our marina I can literally feel the tension start to release out of my mind and body....the Admiral feels the same way...we love retreating to our 'Happy Place' on weekends for a short escape from reality.....

"Life is but a Dream".
My girlfriends name is Merilie, she did NOT want her name on the boat, and I said Merilie, Merilie, Merilie, then she said "Life is but a Dream"

My wife and I own a cemetery memorial business here in West Michigan, this being our first summer with this name on the boat, lots of people asked us if we were funeral directors. lol

THAT is one great post Cliff! I think it sums everything nicely and whatever it is that appeals to us boaters.
As for boat names, I smile when I see a local boat named "Grateful Ted".

The Admiral is a huge Stevie Nicks fan, so the last boat (23' Wellcraft Sportsman) was named "Rock a Little" after a Stevie song. When we upgraded to the 340 DA, it became "Rock a Little More"
Fitting, as music is playing on the boat ALL the time.

Large part of the local river system flows wide & deep between two parallel runs of small mountains/ridges.
Summer weather can be very, very nice, however, painfully short lived.
We get away on the river under the hot sun & between the mountains.
Thought about a name all Summer & having the decals made up over the Winter.
"Valparaiso" - Spanish for Paradise Valley

I'm sure I've put this out there, but it was a long time ago.

Our 370 is named "AMFM 3". Both the Admiral and I are broadcasters. We've been in the industry for most of our lives, I just celebrated 40 years in radio. So when we took the plunge and bought our first boat we had to come up with something appropriate. Luckily, we found something with a dual meaning as that first purchase was a financial stretch (to be honest).

So there's the radio reference of the two bands of radio we grew up on and in, AM and FM. But the logo has a dollar sign in it. The meaning being "All My F$#%ing Money". It works.
