In the spirit of the dog poop thread...who's ever been bit?

I never had until last week when the neighbor's dog came on the property. Don't know exactly what breed it is (some type of hunting dog named Earl) but it's a beautiful animal that weighs about 60 lbs or so. One of our dogs (Buddy), a 60lb boxer, didn't think much about Earl coming on to his turf & decided to let Earl know how he felt about it.

By the time I got to them Buddy was doing a pretty good job of making Earl realize he'd made a big mistake coming on the property. Buddy had Earl on his back with a death grip on his mouth & neck. I was beating Buddy with my fists (I thought Buddy was going to kill him) when I lost my balance & somehow got both hands in their mouths. They got the thumb on my left hand, the bird finger on the right hand and I think I took a paw to my jaw as it has a hole in it too.

When it was all over there was blood everywhere......lol....all mine. Neither dog suffered much more than a scratch or two. Did you know they don't close up (stitches etc) a dog bite wound because of the risk for infection? They doused my fingers with betadine, wrapped them up, gave me a tetanus shot & pretty much said good luck with that!

I’ve never been bite, my sister when she was around 9 was and bite the dog back, almost took his ear off.

I've been nipped on the back of my knee, and some nips on my hands when I broke up my dog and dogs down the street from a fight, but nothing major.

My German shepherd when I was about 14 nipped this old lady that walked into the garage, where her 3 week old puppies were. Again, no broken skin, just scratched, but the old lady was very scared. My dog was very protective at that point.

A lady at my work tried to separate her own dogs that were fighting and lost the tip of her thumb.

A big Golden Retriever jumped on my little Schnauzer and was beating the daylights out of him so I kicked the Golden. Nothing! Then, I gave the dog a big soccer punt, flipped him in the air, the golden landed on his feet, looked at me in the eye for about 2 seconds, turned and walked slowly away. For a second I thought the dog was going to jump me.

Twice, when I was a kid. Both instances were by Cocker Spaniels when my back was turned, and I was walking away.

Recently, we had a major incident go on in our area. This guy (who's a police officer in a local town) was at home, and his dog (a pug) was loose and went onto a neighbor's lawn. That neighbor's dog (a mutt maybe 60 lbs or so) attacked the pug. and had him in his jaws, shaking him back and forth. Apparently, the neighbor's 2 yr old was a short distance away on the swing. The officer went back home, got his gun, and I'm not clear here, but I think the neighbor's dog had stopped attacking the pug at this point. The officer shot the neighbor's dog and killed him. The neighbor's kids male parent unit (of questionable goodness) was outside, and witnessed, and testified against the cop. The cop was on the stand crying about how his dog sounded in pain when the neighbor's dog was shaking him. The pug walked away non the worse for wear, maybe a little stiff for a day or so the officer said.

The officer got off scott-free from this jury trial.

Concern at the time was raised about the cop shooting with the 2 yr old being in close proximity. Last I knew, he's on admin desk job at the town (not where he lives) while they review the case.

About 8 years ago, we had some ex-friends over for dinner. They elected to bring a dog (they adopted as a stray) Sam. The dog always seemed friendly, but after dinner, my then 6 year old daughter Heather got up and laid on the ground to play with Sam. Sam was chewing on our Golden's leather chew.

We think now the dog was protecting the chew toy, but he tore into Heather's face. There were at least 6 major bites including tearing through her nose and eye lid. It was horrible; we could see into the inside of her nose. I did not think I could get her to the hospital without passing out myself.

The cool thing is they used dozens of stitches, and today you cannot even tell. Some members of this board have met Heather. I bet none saw the scars. We were very lucky, but I didn't have much use for that dog after that.

A weird thing was they used a variation of PCP (the drug) to put Heather asleep while stitching. They said it helps her forget the incident. Who knows as we talked about it alot after it happened. She remembers that, but is not afraid of dogs.

Another weird thing was about two years after that, Sam was run over by a snow plow. Go figure.

True story.

I for one have met Heather a wonderful young person. I had no idea that had happened. Ken as you said you can not tell at all. I am glad for you it turned out OK.

I was dog sitting my friend's Siberian Husky. He was out on the run at night. I went to take him in. Something was strange. He was standing frozen snout pointed to the ground and eyes looking up at me. One ice blue and one brown. I reached for the collar to release him and the teeth were shown. He never scared me, but it gave me pause. Then in an instant he lunged at my throat. My cat like reflexes backed me up and out of range by inches. His teeth were going for my throat. I later discovered he had a frog. The dog was dangerous when it had food. My friend got rid of him when his wife became pregnant.

I also had a paper route and there were a couple of dogs that would lay for my ass. Took a water pistol, filled it with ammonia - aim for the face & eyes - problem solved.
