Sadly I have no way to host the dolphins video

Florida is deplorable .

And it's 84 degrees as I post this right now in the low speed zone heading home
:D

took a little run out to cayo costa state park today and found a nice sandbar to grill on and swim

hit 800 engine hours on the way home. I think we bought it with 502
How did you make out having your Golden swim in salt water?
When we let our Golden swim at a dog friendly beach in Tampa Bay he got really really sick from swallowing salt water. Always swam in fresh water.
Was also told to watch out for small sharks if he went too far from shore.

We've always been saltwater people, never been a real issue with this golden or my wife's golden that she had when we met, or any of my labs.

The trick is to let them swim in short intervals, offer plenty of water, and use toys with a strap or a rope that they can completely close their mouth on. Swimming with their mouth open with a tennis ball is a big No-No. The life jacket is primarily so he has a handle to drag him back aboard but it also helps keep their head a little higher.

Other than the occasional runny dump they've never had any real issues. The biggest thing that I can't stress enough though is make sure they have enough cold fresh water to drink. He probably drank almost a gallon yesterday on the boat and after.

I'm more worried about Gators in and near freshwater than sharks in the salt.

Realistically they were just as prevalent where we used to live as they are here. It is what it is.

We had a Golden for 13 great years. Miss him a lot. Like Stray, we have always been salt water also. Never a problem with him.

From what you said 100% my fault.
First time in salt, flinging a tennis ball with a flinger.
Consequently swam fairly long distance with his mouth partly open.
We have a new puppy now and will follow your advise when we get to Florida in Jan.
Thanks again. View attachment 114378
Handsome pup.

A little more of that neverending maintenance.

New motor cartridge for the forward bilge as it seized up and was tripping the breaker on test, and new rule 1100 with duckbill valve in the rear bilge sice some fat guy *MAY* have stepped on the old one...

Fresh wix xp filter and QS syn blend 25-40

The quick change valve coupled to my Moeller suction pump is excellent for an oil change. Takes longer to get the oil above 160 idling than it does to evacuate, change filter and fill.

Gave the bilge a quick wash and shop vac

Wow, to have that kind of room would be a dream. Really looks great!
I'm getting ready to install an oil drain hose in mine. I'm just trying to figure out what to do about a fitting. I picked up a factory style drain kit so it just has a brass cap on the end that you unscrew. I'd like to be able to hook it up to my Mityvac.

We spent some time at “Dog Beach” in Estero Bay last spring right by Bonita Beach. Rented a ‘toon’ from Fish Tale marina. Love it down there. So many places to check out.

I just have a ball valve and a 3/8 hose barb. Hose slides right over

Simple is usually the best. I like it.

nothing seems to happen if it’s left open, there shouldn’t be any kind of appreciable pressure in the pan to be able to push the oil up and out to that level.
I just made sure it opens up so it can’t be pushed open easily by accident . Might throw a vacuum cap over the barb when I find my assortment

That's a great idea. The hose I have just rolls around in the bilge.

Officially stolen idea lol. I've been trying to figure out what to replace the cap that came in the kit with for quite a while and what you did is right there. I might have to mess around with the design a little, but I like it.

Not sure how I missed this little detail, but a few weeks ago I received a title for Stray Current, her tow vehicle and her accessory parts run support SUV.

I think I’m going to go in a different direction than I originally intended with a waterfront home. I currently have a rental dock and I’m thinking about grabbing a 2/3 family on a mortgage and letting other people pay for me to live there.

I think with continued savings and investment I may revisit that waterfront idea in 6-10 years, hopefully being funded totally by 4-5 2/3 family homes...

and a 390 with yanmar diesels, maybe :D

wow...What a read.
Thanks for taking the time to post all these

Out again for some maintenance! I'll be having a buff and detail done this week, and I'm also going to repaint the drive, change the zincs, and paint the drive shower and props.

The way the paint is failing on the lower unit leads me to think I may have an electrolysis issue. I tested the galvanic isolator when I bought the boat and that is working. I'm thinking it might be simply because of the amount of stainless steel on the drive.

I'm going to order a mercathode test probe

and follow this test procedure once it goes back in the water.

I know for certain that my mercathode electrode is clean because I replaced the transom assembly when I bought the boat and it's specifically never had paint on it.

I'm pleased to see that the bottom paint looks like it's holding up quite well so far.

I'm glad to see you've figured out a work-around for Florida. 'Makes me a little jealous...

It may not be your boat the reason the zinc's are rapidly going away. Rather, a boat near you or a short in the dock electrical. It doesn't take much to take a toll on the boat's anodes; trust me I found out the expensive way that the boat next to me was eating my boat. The good news it looks like your zinc's are doing their job; could only imagine the carnage if the anodes were not there. The paint coming off however tells another story that you may have an electrical issue on your boat and passing current to the water. Check all of the bonding on the boat and make sure everything is terminated and conductive. I would replace the bonding straps and bonding wiring on that outdrive also. Just some thoughts.
