The official pre-clinton era sr sport cruiser thread

...Rondd: and where is your water tank located. Mine is just forward of the port engine and it starts on re port side and goes about centerline. If yours is somewhere else, this could be a deal breaker for a conversion.

My water tank is under the forward berth.

Your galley...How is it at the deck?

engine access is very good. Three hatches with removable supports. Pretty wide open. It is tricky to get to the first spark plug, port engine, front left b/c the cabinets hang over that corner of the engine. Do-able, but you really need to use "the force."

New floor grate that i made... what do you think guy's?

Lovin the floor grate. Did you get SR's approval to use their copyrighted logo? LOL!

Forward berth? Meaning master and not your berth where my galley is? Yikes what is the shape? That is a shift of alot of weight forward. Not sure that my 120 gal rectangular tank would fit forward. This just get bigger and bigger, Maybe i should buy a bigger boat. That wont be for a few years after all the engine work I have put in it.

Yep, under the master bunk forward cabin. Not sure of the shape as it's encased in plywood. It's polyethelene, that I do know. I don't run with much more than 20 gallons b/c that is LOT of extra weight.

So went on a slow cruise with the rebuilt top ends. Spent the night downtown and all went well. On the way home decided to get her up in RPM a bit to test her out. Starboard ran well but could never get it above 2800. Need to check it out. Port easily got to 3500 but got too hot and i shut it down. Went below and saw some steam. decided to go home on one. The dock in my backyard has a narrow entry and boy was it windy. Only being able to turn left, decided to power up Port for 2 min just to dock. Made it no problem. Opened her up and found a busted water pump belt. these v belts are very deceiving. Top looked good but looking at the bottom side it was UGLY. Needless to say, I got 3 for the water pumps and 3 for the impeller. Next time it is anchor, figure out what is wrong, then go home.

Not too bad. Just sitting back cruising along about 45 MPH with an occasional blast up to about 65....how about you?

I'm just back from a two week cruise. The boat performed perfectly and I'm one proud owner of a classic!

I must confess I'm considering getting a classic go-fast myself

Ump... glad you made it back to port safe... hope you get your bugs worked out.

Pietro... glad you are getting great use of you beauty...

Everyone else... have a great day!!!

Stupid Question time -

Yesterday, we were getting ready to go out, had the engines running while loading to warm them up before leaving the dock. They were idling (throttles up slightly) around 1200-1500 rpm. Was bring the food bag aboard and bumped the starboard clutch into forward. We were secure to the dock, so did not go anywhere, but did hear a rather loud clunck with the transmission (Hurth) going into forward. I brought the throttle down to idle and took her out of gear.

Obviously, this is not a good thing and something that I don't want to have happen again. After we went out, she shifted and responded as has in the past without any apparent evidence of damage. What damage or added wear and tear could have occured and what should I watch for - if anything?

Thanks

John
GREAT to hear from you! Love to have you back on the boards as a regular. I thought steps were going to be the problem. Now you're looking at a boat with a LOT of steps! GO FOR IT! ;-)

All's well here in NJ. Boat floated real HIGH but made it through OK. Thanks for your concern. BTW, I emptied out my inbox.

DaFish, you'll be fine with the "clunk." I doubt there's anyon here who hasn't done that once or thrice over the years.

Ron - thanks for you reply and assurance. This is the first boat we have had with v-drives and seperate throttles/clutches, so I am a bit cautious.

Dave

DaFish... Rondds is right im guilty of this little oops as well.... good luck... got a few more pictures for you guys...

was able to keep the lights in the arch and add red led's to them as well both colors still work...

Ps... Anyone know what the Treat Breaker switch was originally used for on the dash it now turns on the red lights but just curious...
