Nice lookoing dash and 260! Of course the 310 is a nice ride as well!

Keokie
That Reagan-era 260 is gorgeous! WOW! Are you the orig owner or was this a labor of love? What's the dash made of (mahogany)? Was the boat awlgripped? She must FLY with that powerplant. Beautiful!

Apologies to the Dubya 310 but that boat's too new and has no place on this thread!

One other quick Q - how did you re-vamp the red sections of the dash around the throttle, under the wheel and by the grab-rail???

I will second Ron on the 260 is really looks great. As far as the replacement fake wood dashes that come up from time to time I stumbled across this at Flounderpounder the other day, looks like someone is finally realizing that there is a real demand for these replacements and is pricing them right, I have gotten quotes for upwards of a grand for these in the past:

Go to this site: http://www.fpmarine.com then click on Sea Ray and then on blank panels

Hey Ron.... My '90 Dancer also has a "round" windshield. LMAO.

Personally, I like the backward facing arches although they are definately too low (when compared with the new models) on the Dancers. The newer ones are much higher and give you proper headroom.

I second the beautiful wood trim and great looking fiberglass dash surround by Keokie. Either that is re-painted or it was kept in a garage since the shine is so bright!

1985 390 here...

If they had only made the radar arch a couple of feet taller I wouldn't be frying my brain with radar microwaves when I stand up. Still trying to figure out what to do about that one...

Thanks everyone for the compliments. I made the dash and switch panels out of teak. It took a lot of varnishing and sanding, but finally got it right. I painted the area around the helm and under the windshield with a marine topside paint (Interlux, if I remember correctly).

The boat has spent most of its life in the AZ sun and was pretty chalky when I got it. I polished tirelessly to get it where it is today. I restriped it, too which helped.

It does run very strong with the 502. It really flies if you open the exhaust and throttle.

The boat has been a labor of love. It wasn't beat up when I bought it, but I still ended up re-doing everything anyway. I started with the motor and drive. Then the trailer, upholstery, canvas, stereo, pumpout head, windlass, etc., etc. I'd hate to say out loud how much money I put into it, but I have enjoyed the result.

I have an acquaintance interested in it for 25K, which means I will completely take a bath on it. But if he is serious, I will let it go.

Wow nice job. I hear you on takin' a bath. I had about $18,500 in my '90 220da and let it go for 12k about a month before I bought my 290da. I spent more hours working on it than i can count...new gaskets on exhaust & risers, custom powered sub enclosure, flipped the helm bench seat to face aft and added another seat, twin DVD screens , added manual head with 20g holding tank, installed new fresh water tank & pump , new brakes, wheel cylinders, and master cylinder on trailer, ....you get the picture.

here's a few shots.....additional bench seat

Have you seen this gauge? I like the blue coral one by teleflex as well, Like Ron has in his pic(which made me think of this) Buts anyone seen this one? I'm wondering who the original supplier was?

That is the same tach I put in my 260 (see picture in thread above). It is made by faria. It is relatively readily available.

Well.. after purchasing the boat in March, I finally have the name to put on the back. She's been naked for the last few months. A friend in Finland who has a sign company made the decals for us while we were here. Now I can't wait to get home and put them on!! He even made a smaller one to put on the car :)

Seasu is a play on the Finnish word Sisu which is a term used to describe the Finnish stubbornness, fortitude or general attitude of the Finns.

blue coral one by teleflex

The ones I put in were Blue Vector from teleflex. Our original gauges are "no longer available" so even if you wanted to overspend and get the OEM (which are made by teleflex and have the same guts but different graphics) you couldnt. SR themselves told the guy at MarineMax I'd have to go aftermarket. I replaced both tachs and both engine temps. Only a SR enthusiast would ever notice the difference.

When I was in the market, Overtons (believe it or not) had the best price. I took the ad to West Marine and they matched it. I'm thinking they are phasing these gauges out so if you want the vector you'd better hurry. Seems like West marine doesnt even have them anymore (as per the website)

If you are looking for more modern, Teleflex has other lines like the Lido. They didnt look appropriate for my boat and I was not looking to replace everything - just the ones that crapped out.

Keokie that looks great! When you repainted the dash did you pull off the windsheild. If you did how hard was it to pull off and put back on. That looks like a great winter project.

Actually, I did not pull the windshield. It took painstaking masking and care when painting. I did it when I did the rest of the helm (teak panels, new gauges, new fuse holders, new switches, and new panels for the fuse holders and switches). The masking was probably the hardest part. The project had a big impact on the overall look of the cockpit though.

Lauderdale Speedometer is the best place I've found for replacement gauges. I went with Faria in Dress White, but they have just about everything:

Were did you get the paint? Did you have to get it matched or did you just pick A color that was close? Do you know A good source to get new switchs?

You know what? I think mine may have already been replaced. They look boat 041.jpglike this. Thats why I was thinking the Faria looks more like them. I liked the larger lettering. I wonder which one is more reliable? They seem to be similar in price. I wasn't even thinking of OEM gauges, there's no way I'm paying that much just for a little SR at the bottom!

Amen to that!
Teleflex manufactured the stuff for SR originally, so that's as close to OEM as you can get. That and color was why I chose Teleflex. I cant find the Vector series on their website so you may be limited to existing stock out there.

Here's Faria's product line. Both companies make their products in the USA

Cool, I have the same compass as you!!

Keokie - I am curious about your dash paint too. My boat used to be burgundy and I switched the outside to black and the interior to tan and white. The dash is the only thing still that burgundy color and I would like to switch it. I am wondering about the paint though, should I spray it or roll it, and what type of paint?

Eric
If you can put up some more pix of your renovations. I'd love to see them, as would probably a lot of people in this cult. I've noticed that on a lot of sisterships of my boat, the helm is not painted at all - just arctic white gel coat. Someone painted mine navy blue, which isnt that bad but I'd have preferred plain gel coat. (see post #14 above)

Here's a sistership for sale in FL. Simulated wood grain dash rehab, no paint...
