Th 10" Random orbitals are not really the best. I have a Porter Cable 7424 (DA), like many others here. There are also many with the Meguiar's unit. They are a smaller dia 6" or 7" pad and allow for multiple velcro backed pads to be used and swapped easily.

Before you are getting to the DA stage, a rotary buffer (I use a Makita 9227C) is ideal to achieve the best shine with a compound or intermediate compound.

I just did most of my boat a couple weeks ago and will be finishing this upcoming week.

I have the same equipment as you...I really don't think to much of the little PC7424 but I like the Makita. Your boat sure has come a long way since you took ownership...looks good. I just dropped mine off today at a detailers for the first time. My shoulders been acting up and I was kinda forced to. I went over everything with them, they're supposed to be good but I'll be a nervous wreck till I get it back.:smt043

Thanks. The PC is really only good for the removal of the other material and either polish or wax application. Yes, the rotary does the bulk of the work. My new favorite is the 3M Finesse it II after Meguiar's #67, then Starbrite polish with PTEF for the finish. In the above pic you can see the microfiber terry bonnets I use for the product removal. I have one dedicated for each different product.
