The Official 450 Express Bridge Owners Club

Here's the hull number for our 2002 EB 450. Mine sure looks beat up compared to the others posted! I will share a pic of my helm after my next trip to the boat. We mostly original stuff, and will be interested in ideas for upgrades as well. By the way, I use the Raytheon display between the tachs for my depth. I think that's the only gauge I have for that.

So let's decode Keith's HIN:
SER = Vessel is a Sea Ray
P = boat built in Palm Coast FL plant
5484 = this is the serial number of your boat. So Sea Ray built 1330 boats between yours in 2001 and mine in 1998.
J = boat was built in October
1 = boat was built in 2001
02 = manufactured as a 2002 model boat
All that we know from your lower "internal number" to Sea Ray is the hull production number for 2002. "450EB-511" was the 11th, 450 EB in the 2002 production year.
Keith, is your boat a two or three stateroom model? It seems like the early boats are all three staterooms whereas the later boats are two.

HELM CONFIGURATIONS

As I look forward to upgrades, I thought it would be interesting to see everyone's helm configuration. Here is our helm.

Kevin,
I'll take a picture of my helm hopefully this weekend. In the original set up, the area where your Fusion head unit resides is where the Raytheon VHF radio was. I still have the old radio but the prior owner added a Standard Horizon VHF/AIS system to the right of the steering wheel (above where your radio remote is and to the right of the Garmin Fish Finder). I have the same fish finder and the cover that is very weathered. I have the same Raytheon autopilot. Where your VHF is located, I have a Garmin 741xs GPS that is about five years old. The prior owner installed it, but he used the bracket instead of flush mounting it so it is a little funky. Where your Garmin GPS is located I have a Raymarine older GPS from about 2007. It is NMEA 2000 connected to the same Raymarine depth and speed unit that you have between the two tachometers. I have the same trim tabs and spot light controls. As I posted earlier, I installed a new Fusion head unit in the cabinet below where your Fusion is at. I also pulled the wired remote and replaced it with the Fusion remote.

Going forward, I will be flush mounting the Garmin and I want to replace the tachs with the Aetna digital units. I don't like how the old tachs bounce around and are corrected by tapping them on the glass. I have more projects ahead of the helm, so maybe I'll get to them by the end of this summer.

On the easy end of the upgrade spectrum, I was instructed to deal with the reading lights in the midship stateroom. I had swapped out the halogen bulbs for leds, but one of the two was missing the glass portion, so it looked pretty bad.

I picked these up on Amazon. I mounted them upside down so that the USB port faced out, otherwise it could not be accessed with how close they are mounted to the wall.

It is, old pics though. The same broker who sold the boat to the current owner just reposted the ad...he had new photos done, but sold the boat before he could post new ones.

Then it fell through and the broker called me back and I put in an offer right away.

Here are the newest high-res images, not sure how long the link will work. I downloaded them for the future use when this goes dead - https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1dHVKiwSaWH7fXbpIbc3cr2JLNdL_mu1m

Great looking boat! That is what my boat was listed at last summer, so you are getting a great deal in this market. I have a friend who is under contract for this 1999 45 Carver. My jaw dropped when I saw the list price at 269K. In my opinion the 450 EB is a better boat. https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1999/carver-voyager-pilothouse-450-3822581/
So tell us about the telephone to the flybridge. I have never seen that on a 450. Does it run to the phone jack in the galley near the two barstools?

Thx! We are excited. It comes out of the water 17May for a port shaft seal leak, and some other odds and ends. Hopefully, we take delivery on the 21st.

The Carver looks nice (green leather and counters???), but surprised it has 6BTAs in a boat that big. Pricy for sure, originally we were looking at a 2006 Cruisers 477 with Volvo D9s and we went under contract at $255k on that boat. Its a long story, but we found a huge black mold problem during the sea trial. You are spot on, we are very lucky to get our boat at the price we did in this market.

So, the phone...was hoping you all would know. The current owner hasn't played with it, but there is a phone in the salon and in the owners stateroom too. I assumed it was an intercom, will have to see if I can figure it out. RVs used to have wired phone jacks inside and outside for full timers, maybe it was for live-aboard? The boat has only had two owners and was never a live-aboard according to the broker who knew both owners. The seller says he just stomps on the bridge floor to get people's attention in the salon...lol.

RACOR FILTER SIZE

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if the fuel filters Racor 500s or 900s?

Thx in advance...won't let me upload an image for some reason. You can see them on either side of the generator at this link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vG59pAko4r_4t6y2BKGZl5n5J1gTwkxD/view?usp=drivesdk
Kevin,
The four main Racors should be 900s. The filter for your generator should be a 500. The part # for the 900 is "Racor # 2040". The part # for the 500 is "Racor # 2010". With each you have a choice of which micron the filter will be.
Here are the options that will be at the end of the part number:
30 micron = "PM-OR"
10 micron = "TM-OR"
4 micron = "SM-OR"

For our relocation trip, our boat had been in fresh water for decades and in no rough water whatsoever. I was nervous that once we got outside the Golden Gate, some gunk in the tanks would dislodge and clog the filters. I picked up two 30 micron and two 10 micron filters for the trip. Luckily I never had an issue but it was/is good to have the spares.

Awesome, thanks! I am worried about the same issue crossing the Gulf. Although, nothing in the Gulf compares to the Pacific (I grew up in CA).

Taking a whole set of filters excluding lube oil.

Thx for the info!

After I posted, I took a look at a picture of my Westerbeke generator to see if there was anything different. Again our boats should be very similar, both built in 99. The first picture is the overall view. The second picture is a close up of one of the Racors on the port side. I don't remember the exact configuration but clearly that filer housing is smaller than yours.
EDIT: I did a quick Google search. The Racor in my picture is the 500 for my generator. You and I both have 900s for the main engines as I found a picture of one of the starboard side Racors.

Great pics...I have a long way to get my engine space looking like yours! It looks great!

Thanks. Lots of Simple Green, rags and bilge paint so far and I still need to detail the engines after I replaced both engine water pumps and all of the hoses. I will say adding more light helps. I switched out the four stock light bulbs for LEDs and added four more small marine lights from Amazon to brighten things up. I used the existing cockpit floor bolts to mount the brackets so it was easy. Just another project off the checklist.

Those lights were the first thing I noticed, adding to the list. For now, a good headlamp will help.

What kind of bilge paint did you use?

I have the 2 stateroom model.

I use the same Racor filters. One thing to note -- it's important to occasionally drain the globe below the filters. Mine had not been done in a very long time and brown growth had accumulated. It was so thick it wouldn't drain with the bottom open unless I poked something through the hole! Very messy job.

Do you keep both Racors open at once and replace together, or one at a time? My local boat shop recommended one at a time, usually changing one filter per year. I'm giving it a try.

I have the 2 stateroom model.
Keith, I could be wrong, but it seems like all 99,00 and 01 year models are three bedrooms. All 02,03 and 04 year models are two bedrooms. Have you noticed this as well? I like the layout of the 2 bedroom model over the 3, but I couldn't find a 2 on the West Coast when I was looking.
