Shaft seal feeds, SMH!

Well, after clamping off my shaft seal line I got through the flush today (between hanging up Christmas lights).

Before and after:

Zincs (Top aftercooler, bottom aftercooler, coolant heat exchanger) probably going to change these more often than 12 months.

We had a nice vacation in the BVI only to return to find out that our Vitrifrigo refrigerator quit. We had an issue with the thermostat in September of 2020 that was an easy fix, but the old girl finally gave out. Has any one here replaced their galley refrigerator? Did you use Vitrifrigo or another manufacturer? I haven't measured it, but I believe these are possible options:
https://www.vitrifrigo.com/us/us/dp2600ibd4-f-internal-cooling-unit
https://www.vitrifrigo.com/us/us/dp2600ixd4-f-internal-cooling-unit
or if those are too large, maybe this model:

Bummer on the fridge.

Ours has been replaced with a Norcold. The only complaint is you can't get to freezer with just the upper door. Other than that, works good.

Not sure this is that cool, but I like it and it was $20 upgrade. After resurecting my factory installed Bose (which actually sounds awesome and has HUGE subs in the master state and salon) I ran into the boring problem of not having Bluetooth. Even more annoying, the music changed when walking from outside to inside unless you were using FM...buzz kill when your jam is on and you are headed to head/fridge.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

Found a BT to RCA reciever and the setting in my phone to transmit to both the Fusion and Esinkin adapter(top right on Bose). Voila, whole boat synchronized sound for $20!

Have same salon Bose, Clarion in bridge cabinet with two controllers, bridge & cockpit. Also a SiriusXm connected to Clarion. Would love it if I could cast sound from Clarion to salon Bose. Bose is basically a CD changer. Have to look up that Esinkin adapter. Secondly, put in a Fire stick 4k in salon tv $26. Using ATT U-verse as my home provider, apps on the stick work great. Was able to get football games, finally.

Fresh water flushing for mains, generator, and A/C

Drilled, tapped, and installed valves in all of the seawater strainers today. Will be able to fresh water flush everything and easily descale everything. Going to get an image of the coolers through the zinc ports (coolant and aftercooler) before barnacle buster, after barnacle buster, and then again next year after using the fresh water flush.

Cost under $100.

Also, found that the bonding wire on the starboard main strainer only had about one strand of wire holding it which explains the corrosion, a project for tomorrow.

Love the fresh water flush idea. Have Groco strainers, look a little different than yours. Groco makes a top with a hose adapter. After market has one too. Could also tee into upstream of the strainer. Haven't acted on options yet but flushing three coolers certainly seems like a super plan. Wonder how much salt water resides in them when not running engines.

I just bought a 3/4" drill and tap set on Amazon and some valves. Took a total of two hours to do all four sea strainers. I've seen the Groco options at $200+ per cap.

If you have a drill press and some time, pretty easy project.

Not sure if the Clarion is bluetooth, but you could probably go with a line down to the "aux in" on the Bose from one of your outputs on the Clarion and get the same result.

====================

I have plumbed my Yanmar intercooled diesel engines with ball valves so they can double as EMERGENCY CRASH PUMPS.

Additionally, plumbed engines, genny and raw water side of AC for FRESH WATER FLUSH.

Been doing this since i installed these BRAND NEW diesels 16 years ago - no cooler issues whatsoever.... EVER!

Over the last 10 years or so I began introducing a short dose of SALTAWAY at the end of the flush, thus the engines, coolers, EVERYTHING on the raw water side is pickled, not in salt water, not in fresh water but in a solution of SALTAWAY during periods of non-use.

When I finally get a 450 Sundancer I plan on setting her up the same way.

Once I service ALL the coolers and replace all the hoses, I should be good to go for another 15 years - maybe.....

This is great. I had all my hoses replaced, both Cummins and genset, and new coolers, after first taking possession 17 months ago. I want to preserve the cooler investment in particular. After my electronics upgrade, this is next, auto fresh water flush. Don't know how to automate yet but sure is a desire.

I've put some thought into automation. Going to use QDs for now, but if I get tired if that they make motorized ball valves (https://www.amazon.com/Motorized-Va...hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584276309506141&psc=1), here is a manifold (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007AGHPQE/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_Y91DCQ7DEJVTP6HD86EH, and SBMAR offers a garden hose through-hull https://www.sbmar.com/product/freshwater-flush-garden-hose-thru-hull-kit/).

Brass? Annealed Copper? With saltwater? May want to rethink all of that.... Your boat may end up on the bottom if that is going below the water line...

automation is good, but what if one of these fails......

sometimes the K I S S PRINCIPLE is better, especially in salt water

What failed? My experience has been either the control module or fan might be the likely causes.
