While my family and I took our Motorhome to the Florida Keys we rented a boat from Key West and rode around some. And we got some great pics. We as a family have taken a liking to the history and old craftsmanship of lighthouses. For me it is more about my love for Industrial History. Most Lighthouses were built in a vastly different era, and updates to them preserved in history. Most retain the old buildings and structures, Yet run a modern light setup. Whats amazing to me is the technology it took in the late 1800s just to make a light blink, or appear to.

Sand Key Lighthouse as it is today was built in 1853. The keepers dwelling was in the bottom of the "tri-pod" Today Sand Key us a Submerged Key. But when it was built, there was plenty of sand to walk on.

We had a few issues with the boat once we arrived there. The boat did break down and left us stranded for about an hour for the owner to come to us with oil for the hydrolic steering. It ran out while approaching a mooring buoy. We didn`t think to take pictures until on our way back.

Here are the pics.

This one is taken from the Southernmost Point Marker on Key West Florida from a different camera with Maximum Zoom.
