Born and raised in New Jersey and my father was a WWII Marine and became a amateur historian of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. I can remember going all across Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia visiting battlefields and cemeteries. I can remember being at Gettysburg in the 70's for the battle reenactment. Tens of thousands of re-enactors and an equal number of spectators.

And those numbers pale in comparison to the facts. 150,000 soldiers battled for three days. 10,000 soldiers killed or mortally wounded, 30,000 injured, and 10,000 captured or missing. Yes it was carnage, it was war. Two groups of Americans battling over differences in ideology.

If people don't understand that how can they understand the enormity of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address which was the dedication of the cemetery for 3,500 of the Union dead.

When they take the guns and killings from video games then we can talk! I'm not against these games but I'm pretty sure they influence young kids behavior much more than Elmer Fudd or a Civil War reenactment

We are on a downhill slope. I said to my marina buddies, 10 plus years ago we are dying as a country. I was told you are a crazy. Now, almost all agree. I am glad I am as old as I am and may not have to witness it. Sadly we have kids and grandkids.

 

I said we were in trouble back when they started issuing participation trophies. That eliminated the need to work harder and be better. It also rewarded those that didn't try, which is why kids today want everything handed to them, including gov't funding

 

Heard that exact same statement from my great grandfather, my grandfather and my Dad. It’s pretty clear this board is a bunch of old white men that fear their entitlement slipping away and the rapidly accelerating end of the run. Standard operating procedure for every aging generation.

You probably should have left out the "white" and just said men and your statement would have made more sense. But that statement has no place in this thread or any other. You speak of entitlement, another word with very big meaning. None of which has anything to do with what's posted here.

Your entitled to think the world is going along well and that everything is great. I'm sure when your older things will be just as you hoped.

 

It's a shame that so many anti-gun people can't see the value in the history re-enactments. It must be the same smart people that are taking down the statues trying to "delete" America's history. Before long museums won't be able to have stuffed animals on display their exhibition's.

As you mentioned earlier, maybe you should just stick to 6CTA thread for tech questions that you can address. No need to get worked up over the opinions of a bunch of old farts.

 

Kind of strange mentioning "entitlement" from someone that ownes a 40' sedan bridge.

Don't think any one that owns a boat should mention anyone's "entitlement". It is especially odd that "old" "white" "men" were specifically called out. Kind of racist, bigoted or what ever the buzz words are to these days. Just missing the religious aspect.
