The death of my 340DA - Roof collapse at SMYC

Guys, sad as it may seem, Alex has moved on and we need to also! The boat is being totalled. We all now need to focus our attention on picking out Alex's new boat for him. Time for a more cheery thread.

I like your thinking!

I've heard it here before...that there is no better time than now to be in the market.

As tough as it is Alex, and I'm sorry to see it, it's metal, plastic and glass. We get so attached to these great pieces of plastic because of the memories, pride and hard work we've put into them, forgetting that they are not alive. I hope you get your new boat soon so you can continue making the memories with your family and friends which is what it's all about.

Good luck.

Alex, I too am sorry for the loss of your boat. I'm curious though as to what all was found damaged on your boat. Was it just the arch or were there other things damaged/destroyed? I know you are moving on,and I wanted to see if we can all learn from your experiences. Did I understand correctly that the insurance co. considers the arch a structural part of the boat? Was the arch an option or were they all built with them? My '89 300 has a removable arch that was an option that not everyone seemed to order. In my case at least, the arch is in no way a structural part of the boat.

I would think Alexs' boat would be a good candidate for someone to purchase from the insurance liquidator as a fixer-uper since it appears to have been well cared for and needs only some repairs.
Again I wish you luck in your search for a replacement vessel.

Just a brief update. I cleaned my personal belongings off the boat and signed all documents over to the capital company. They have paid the little loan we had on her already off to the bank, so now when I get the difference paid out we can begin boat shopping in earnest.

I am trying to look at a 460DA and 410DA next week. I first need to get a feel of a 460DA to see if that might be too much boat for our purpose, even though there is no such thing as I am sure I will hear.

My favorite is still the 410DA, but we could also go for a 380DA if there are deals.

Will keep you updated.

From your other thread it seems like one of these boats with gas would suit your needs much better than diesels.

Hope you have great luck in your new boat search!
