Last update:

Left southern Idaho bright and early. Had a good thunderstorm over night. Stopped in Mt. Home to have breakfast with a friend who is in the Air Force. Looking forward to the big pull up the blue mountains and down deadman's pass.

Baker City OR is such a neat place. Had lunch in La Grande and up and over. We stopped at the overlook and wow what a drop to the Columbia River basin. Down we went and the Ford downshifted and held the speed to 45mph all the way down with no problems. No for the ride down the gorge and the wind.

It started to rain and as we neared Portland it became clear that we would not make it home until dark, so we decided to spend the night about 30 miles from Portland. Could have pushed it, but I didn't want to have any problems backing up my drive way.

We left this morning and headed north up I-5. As we passed the weigh station north of Vancouver, as I passed over the sensors, the signs lit up saying I needed to pull into the station. I blew by and no one came after me. About 10 miles from the house a trooper had a truck pulled over and as we passed by he was walking back to the driver when he turned and watched us go by. The pucker factor got a little high! The Admiral waved at him!!!!! She says he was just checking out the great SR! I about freaked.

We made it to home 40 and up the mountain to the drive way. The road was narrow and the driveway steep. To my surprise, no problems backing up the drive. Good thing I have 4wd!

Made it home 2033 miles. Will post total cost when I get the courage to post it.

This concludes this thread and I want to tank everyone for the help. BTW we did NOT get any permits. here are a few pics....

Great Job! Well done!

Cabbage hill sure can increase the pucker factor... try it in the winter. Glad that your trip was uneventful. A whole lot of beauty I am sure.

Wash that sucker and get it wet. This weekend looks like the weather is going to be nice.

You bet it does! Have some more work to do before I can. We have the interior gutted and will have to put it back together. Replace the shaft seals and fix an oil leak on the port engine and fix the bridge wiring and gages........

almost ready....

Tom, I glad you had a safe trip. :smt001. Thanks for the very nice pics !!.
BTW we did NOT get any permits.
Yep I said you wouldn't need them !!.
If you looked & acted like you knew what you're doing. :smt001

Made my own signs "Not for Hire" and tape them to my back window. Thanks for the help. It saved me lots of $$$$

I think if you have a boat under 12' wide any one can tow it if you have the ability!

I was quoted $10,000 to ship it from NC to OR. It cost me around $3,000..........

TY for GREAT READ + Pictures......Stuck home after back surgery.....reading anything !!!!

Sorry for the boat needs to get wet comment... so far this has been one of the wettest Junes on Record. I stopped by the marina last night and the water was up 7'. Good news... fewer sand bars and dead heads this year :)

At the end of our street yesterday...

At the bottom of our hill, the city worker had water over his boots. He said it was 3' deep. Yes it rains in Oregon

Thanks for the pics Tom, they were great - not to many have had a chance too see how incredible that part of the world is. I never take the view for granted. Glad ya all made it safe and sound.

Tom, I watched your progress across the country and am glad you made it safely. It's a big, beautiful country and a pleasure to drive across no matter which route you take.

I don't know if you've splashed the boat yet but I bet you're getting anxious to do that.

Thanks for sharing your journey with us. I enjoyed reading it and I'm sure everyone else did also. I haven't done a long distance tow like that, only from Eastern WA to Portland a couple of times and one round trip to Anacortes. It's always an adventure!!

Thanks. We are really anxious but have a few things to do. Meanwhile we are exploring the Columbia with our riverboat. Landed a nice steelie Sunday. Looking at keeping the tub at Kalama until I know everything is in working order and then up to the sound. Exciting times ahead.
