The big old 80's 340 owners thread

I have only been on CSR for 2 days now. And wow! The help and the info has been great! Thank you all who have reached out and given me info.

I figured I would grab the bull by the horns (after going 30 pages deep and various searches) to start THE BIG OLD 80'S 340 owners thread. Of course not to hate on the newer 340's club, (which I hope one day to be a part of) but it would be great to put together a thread of all owners of the big old 80's 340's so we can pick each other brains and share our experiences and knowledge.

I look forward to seeing how many CSR members are still behind the wheel of the 80's. So kick back with your favorite 80's hair metal band cassette and comb your mullet, were bringing back the 80's with pride!

I have a 1986 340 ec. Just looking for any pointers on replacing the sea impeller. Ive done one on other boats but figured id ask . What wrench sizes and any tricks or tips. Thanks for all the help. They are the 5.7 260 hp motors

Just picked up a 3000 watt invertor. Going to wire it into the electrical panel but my question is where is everyone mounting theirs. I am told not to mount it in the bilge as it is not ignition protected.

You probably already figures this out but when we owned a 340da I mounted an inverter inside the access panel just below the electrical panel. I made a 3/4" plywood base for the inverter using t-nuts on the back side for the mounting screws. I then glued the board to the inside of the hull using 3M 5200. Worked perfect.

Thank you so much. My wife is the one who picked all the fabric. I will get the info for ya. I have to take some outside pics too. I have the swimplatforms platform and a few other outside upgrades.
Hello, i have a 1989 340 also. I am looking to upgrade my swim plat form. Any info on where to go for this would be great. Thankyou

Carl, I have been a member for many years but posted little till now. I have had my 1988
dancer for close to 30 years and it is time to do some more to the interior. I stumbled across
your pictures. Will you come to california and fix my dinette like yours ? Probably not but how about any pointers? I have an upholstery guy but I will need to to design and build the structure. What did you use for the structure wood, metal or ? When you sit at the backside is your head hitting the overhead stereo enclosure? I see you used only one table post and it tends to lean. Any"I would have done it differently ideas?

Hi 340 owners . Can anyone explain why I fill both fuel tanks run out for 2 weekends and go to fuel up and the port tank takes about 20% more fuel to fill than the starboard tank. I have the fuel valves (port tank port engine, starboard tank starboard engine ) I run both engines at the same time and don't use the generator.

Well, can you switch the tanks and see if the fuel use goes to the different tank. If so then you're probably due for a carburetor rebuild as one engine is probably running rich. The tanks are also not the same sizes just as an FYI.

I don’t remember the exact sizes but one tank is a bit bigger than the other. Also the generator pulls from only one tank.

Genny pulls from the port.
If memory serves, port is 90 and the starboard is 82.

Has anyone on here replaced the original horns on the express cruiser? Did some research online and they do not make the model anymore. I am scratching my head because the original horns have two wires coming through the deck and up into the back of the horns so the base seals the wires and holes. All the new replacement ones I’ve found have exposed wires and I can’t get access from below due to the headliner.
Any and all help/ideas greatly appreciated!

I removed mine, filled in the holes and put air horns up on the radar arch. You have to run an air line up through the sides of the arch but it doable. I put the compressor in the cabinet under the helm seat.

There is nothing like the sound....and volume of air horns.
