I looked out of the window yesterday and saw that this had arrived in the bay, we do sometimes get some US navy ships in, but I dont think i've seen anything as big as this.

I took a few photos, but they had a 1km exclusion zone around it, so I couldnt get too close.

For a bit of info :-

The uss enterprise
342m long
8 nuclear reactors
~38mph top speed
~5000 crew
~80 planes

I served in Enterprise in the 80's and she was showing her age then. There was an initiative to put her out of service in the 90's but it allegedlywas going to cost more to lay up the nuclear plant that to keep her in service. I suspect this is her first port of call in six months and that she'll be painted well enough by the crew right there in Mallorca to look presentable when she returns home.

according to local press, the ship is only going to be here for 4 days, and is due to leave tomorrow.

So I dont think they will be painting it on this stop. I've no idea what they're doing here, maybe they're on the way to libya to get colonel gadaffi?

The ship was refitted in the early 90's at what used to be Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. in Newport News VA. I worked on her there. You can imagine the difficult environment as well as the problems that inhibit maintaining her while at see.

Wow! At 38mph, that monster should be able to run down those pirate skiffs with no problems! That's haulin!

I wonder what the turning radius is at full cruise???
